Patriots agreed to terms with SS Adrian Wilson, formerly of the Cardinals, on a three-year contract.
Wilson was one of many veterans the Patriots hosted for a Friday visit. After grading out as Pro Football Focus' No. 2 safety in 2011, Wilson fell all the way to No. 59 in 2012 while being benched from Arizona's nickel defense midway through the season. 33-year-old Wilson is an in-the-box safety who will likely play early downs before being replaced by some combination of Steve Gregory and Tavon Wilson in passing situations. Wilson will probably be hailed as Bill Belichick's "next Rodney Harrison," but it's highly, highly unlikely he'll have 50 percent of that kind of impact.

Free agent SS Adrian Wilson will visit the Patriots.
It's Wilson's first known visit since being released by the Cardinals six days ago, and the 30-plus-year-old free agent safeties aren't getting much play, yet. 33-year-old Wilson's play fell off last season as he was demoted out of the nickel defense, but he can still be a solid presence as an in-the-box safety.

Free agent SS Adrian Wilson plans to play at least one more season.
Wilson, going on age 34, hopes to land with a West Coast team who'll likely be in playoff contention. Very limited at this stage of his career, box-safety Wilson could perhaps intrigue a club like Denver or San Diego if he's willing to play for near the league minimum. Wilson is a two-down strong safety.

Cardinals released SS Adrian Wilson.
The move saves $3 million in salary cap room. Wilson said in December that he didn't expect to be back for a 13th year in the desert, and he was right. The 2001 third-round pick is just one year removed from an elite campaign, but saw his play slip in 2012. Wilson was demoted out of nickel packages in November. With the safety market loaded with experienced talent, Wilson may have to wait a while for a new deal. He's going on age 34.

Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman was spotted working out on Wednesday with no added protection on his right foot.
Although Edelman didn't participate in practice, it's a step in the right direction. The shifty wide receiver is squarely on the roster bubble, and is battling Donald Jones, Lavelle Hawkins and Michael Jenkins for a roster spot. He'll need to be healthy for training camp if he's to have any shot at making the team.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports the Patriots are "holding out hope" Rob Gronkowski (back surgery, arm surgery) will be ready for Week 1.
As to be expected. At this point, there's no reason to unilaterally assume Gronk won't be ready for Week 1 — two and a half months is a long time — but there's still far more reason to believe he won't be ready than will be ready. We're unlikely to get a good read on Gronk's regular season status before mid-August. All we know for now is that he'll start camp on the active/PUP list.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the "belief" inside Patriots headquarters is that Aaron Hernandez was "not involved" with the murder police are investigating in Attleboro, Mass.
The facts are changing quickly, but here's what we
think
we know: Hernandez is simply being
questioned
, and is not a suspect. 2. A car rented in Hernandez's name is a "key piece of evidence." 3. Hernandez's home is being searched Tuesday evening. The story will likely continue to evolve quickly, but for now there's no reason to assume anything other than Hernandez is having a (really) bad Tuesday. The situation should be updated later this evening.
