Anquan Boldin said he considers his trade to the 49ers a "good thing."
Boldin had previously hinted that he'd retire if the Ravens cut him. They traded him, but he seems more than fine with the move. "When I look at the organization and what they're about, and as a football team, the talent that they have, I think it's a good, good place for me to be," Boldin said. The transaction will become official once he returns from Africa and completes his physical.

49ers acquired WR Anquan Boldin from the Ravens in exchange for a 2013 sixth-round draft pick.
The Ravens were on the verge of releasing Boldin, so GM Ozzie Newsome did well to get a pick back for a receiver entering his age-33 season and still clearing all of his $6 million base salary off of the books. Boldin adds another physical possession receiver to Colin Kaepernick's arsenal, though we'd expect Boldin to take a bit of a backseat to Crabtree and Vernon Davis in 2013. As great as Boldin was in the playoffs, he does not create separation in the passing game. To fully capitalize on Kaepernick's arm, the 49ers either need A.J. Jenkins to step up as a vertical stretcher, or they'll need to find one someplace else.

Citing a source with knowledge of the situations, Profootballtalk.com reports the Anquan Boldin situation is "not looking promising" for Boldin's chances of staying in Baltimore.

budge off his refusal to take a pay cut. The Ravens want to slash $2 million of his salary, which might be more reasonable had Boldin not put the team on his back during Baltimore's Super Bowl run. PFT's Mike Florio also confirms "it has become clear" that Boldin has no plans to retire.

SI's Peter King reports Anquan Boldin will "stand firm" on his intention to refuse any pay-cut proposals from the Ravens.
Understandably. Boldin was so good during Baltimore's playoff run that he could reasonably be asking for a raise. All Boldin wants is to return on the contract he signed in 2010. Joe Flacco has already come out in public support of Boldin.

Kendall Hunter (Achilles surgery) still expects to be a full go for training camp.
Hunter, who blew out his left Achilles' tendon on Nov. 25, recently resumed sprint work. He won't participate in OTAs or minicamps, but claims he's on track to battle for reps behind Frank Gore come August. Still, it would be an awfully quick recovery for Hunter. Note that Mikel Leshoure's rehab from the same injury lasted roughly 13 months. Leshoure also lacked burst upon return.

Although the 49ers' medical exam of Marcus Lattimore (knee surgeries) yielded positive results according to Jim Harbaugh, the coach says Lattimore must take a "step back" in terms of cutting drills.
"The ACL looks really good for Marcus," insisted Harbaugh. "We're just going to have to take a step back in terms of the cutting because we want that inside of the knee, the lateral side of the knee to heal fully. But we're good." Lattimore conceded he'd be "fine" with sitting out the entire 2013 season. Harbaugh said the 49ers will determine his playing status at a later date.

Williams was facing an uphill battle to be ready for the offseason program, but he's reportedly on pace to return at the start of training camp. Manningham was never expected to participate in OTAs, and he's a candidate to start the season on the PUP list. Both will compete for roster spots.

Mario Manningham (knee) believes he'll be ready for Week 1.
It's an optimistic assertion. Manningham tore his ACL and PCL during Week 16 last season, a devastating injury that most players need nine months to recover from. He won't be ready for the start of training camp and will be in a race to avoid the PUP list. The Niners can't count on Manningham while making plans to replace Michael Crabtree (Achilles').

Updating a previous item, coach Jim Harbaugh confirmed Michael Crabtree's Achilles' tendon was "completely torn" during Tuesday's OTA practice, and the injury was to Crabtree's right Achilles'.
So this wasn't a partial tear like Terrell Suggs' April 2012 Achilles' injury. For bookkeeping, we like to know which side of Crabtree's body was injured, the full extent of the injury, and all dates associated with his recovery, in order to provide accurate timelines in the future. Crabtree underwent surgery on Wednesday, May 22. Per Harbaugh, the full Achilles' tear occurred when Crabtree was "coming in motion and just planted and started a route, and it felt like someone kicked him in the Achilles'." The 49ers hope to have Crabtree back around Week 12.
