Bengals re-signed LCB Terence Newman to a two-year, $5 million contract.
Newman, entering his age-35 season, finished 2012 with 75 tackles, ten pass breakups, two picks, and a forced fumble across 15 starts. Experiencing a late-career renaissance, Newman graded out as a top-20 corner in Pro Football Focus' ratings. The Bengals were content to let him walk with 2012 first-rounder Dre Kirkpatrick set to take over at left cornerback, but Newman took less money to return to Cincinnati. He'll now battle Kirkpatrick for the starting job in camp.

Free agent CB Terence Newman expects to sign with the Bengals or Raiders by the end of the week.
Both clubs view Newman as veteran depth. Although he was a pleasant surprise as part of the Bengals' No. 9 pass defense last year, it's unfair to expect sustained high-quality play at age 35.

Free agent CB Terence Newman will visit the Raiders Thursday.
The Raiders continue their trend of showing interest in free agents no one else is after. Newman did grade out well as part of the Bengals' No. 9 pass defense in 2012, but will be 35 in September. Expect a short-term deal if the Raiders pounce.

Bengals.com says the team's "first course of action when free agency starts" is to re-sign CBs Terence Newman and Adam "Pacman" Jones.
That would seem to indicate RT Andre Smith and LB Rey Maualuga are on the back burner. Both Newman and Jones were pleasant surprises in 2012, but it's hard to count on 30-plus-year-old corners playing at that level much longer. Cincinnati needs to maintain its superior pass rush to take pressure off the veteran back end.

The Cincinnati Enquirer's Joe Reedy "highly doubts" both Bernard Scott and Giovani Bernard will make the Bengals' 53-man roster.
In other words, Scott's roster spot is in jeopardy. Bernard obviously isn't going anywhere after being the first running back drafted last weekend. The Bengals re-signed Scott, 29, to a one-year deal last month. Cincinnati will likely keep four running backs: BenJarvus Green-Ellis, Bernard, special teams ace Cedric Peerman, and sixth-round pick Rex Burkhead.
