Saints re-signed WR Marques Colston to a five-year, $40 million contract.
The deal reportedly includes $19 million guaranteed. A move that previously seemed unlikely gained momentum after dueling Tuesday reports revealed the Saints were "working feverishly" to re-sign their physical slot receiver, and that Colston "badly" wanted to remain in New Orleans. Since the Saints were expected to enter free agency with just $7 million in cap space, Colston will undoubtedly earn a low base salary in 2012 before seeing his numbers steadily increase. It's the best possible news from a fantasy perspective, as Colston had little chance of equaling his routinely prolific production outside of the Saints' aggressive aerial attack. Colston will turn 29 in June.

The New Orleans Times-Picayune considers Marques Colston the Saints' "most likely free agent to stay" among Carl Nicks, Tracy Porter, Robert Meachem, and defensive tackles Shaun Rogers and Aubrayo Franklin.
Beat writer Mike Triplett concedes that the Saints' system suits Colston better than a scheme would anywhere else, and he'd "prefer to stay in the Saints' offense," assuming the money is right. Triplett projects Colston to receive $8 million annually or maybe more. He ought to be willing to take a bit less to remain in New Orleans because he wouldn't be as productive elsewhere.

Profootballtalk.com reports that the Saints are "working feverishly" to re-sign Marques Colston ahead of Tuesday's free agency period.
Per PFT, Colston "badly" wants to stay with the Saints. That's good, because New Orleans is working with less than $7 million in cap space and can't afford to give him a whole lot of first-year money, aside from a prorated signing bonus. Colston, arguably the second best receiver eligible for free agency, is more valued in the Saints' offense than he might be elsewhere as a big-bodied matchup problem in the slot. He'd be smart to stay in New Orleans. Alex Marvez of FOX Sports hears Colston will re-sign in the "high $7 million" range.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Browns "certainly" will not pursue free agent Marques Colston.
Browns brass has been clear that it won't spend big money in free agency, and that's what it's going to take to acquire Colston, arguably the No. 2 receiver on the free agent market behind Vincent Jackson. Colston wouldn't help the Browns much, anyway. They need a wideout with legitimate separation skills.

Sidelined
Saints interim coach Joe Vitt conceded that Mark Ingram (toe, knee surgeries) is unlikely to be a full-go for the start of training camp.
Ingram has undergone three surgeries over the past three offseasons, two on his left knee. While Vitt is confident Ingram will be ready by Week 1, the durability concerns won't help Ingram's chances of experiencing a bigger workload. The 2011 first-round pick should be red-flagged in 2012 fantasy drafts.
