CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports long-term talks between the Cowboys and franchise player LE Anthony Spencer have been "cordial and productive," and that a deal is possible before next month's deadline.
Per La Canfora, the sides have been "exchanging proposals for quite some time." Owner Jerry Jones rarely lets his own players get away, and is likely even more desperate than usual to lock Spencer up after franchising him in back-to-back years. There's a good chance Spencer will be reporting to camp with a fresh new extension.

Cowboys LE Anthony Spencer is sitting out minicamp with a hyperextended left knee he suffered in OTAs.
Spencer bumped knees with someone last week. He'll try to practice on Wednesday, but Dallas has little to gain by pushing its franchise player. He'll likely sit out until training camp, where he should be 100 percent.

Fox Sports Southwest reports long-term contract talks between the Cowboys and LE Anthony Spencer have hit a "downturn."
The Cowboys reportedly believe recent deals for pass rushers have knocked the market value down to the $5-million-per-year range, and Spencer's camp wants a deal similar to what Clay Matthews (five years, $66 million) or Paul Kruger (five years, $40.5 million) received. Spencer is locked in at $10.6 million for 2013 via the franchise tag, and the sides have until July 15 to negotiate a new deal.

Cowboys LE Anthony Spencer replied he's "really not worried about it," when asked about his contract situation Tuesday.
The Cowboys opted to franchise Spencer and let the market dictate the value for defensive ends before pursuing a long-term deal. It appears to be one of the few smart moves Jerry Jones made this offseason, as the DE market didn't produce the paydays it's accustomed to. The Cowboys have some incentive to do a long-term deal, freeing up cap space, but don't appear to be in any rush. Spencer is coming off his first Pro Bowl season.

Romo's recovery time was initially supposed to be three weeks, but the team is proceeding cautiously with its franchise quarterback. Coach Jason Garrett said he's "made a lot of progress," but added the team is "erring on the side of caution." Romo is expected to be 100 percent before the start of training camp.

The Cowboys reportedly believe fifth-round pick Joseph Randle can be a "full-time back" if DeMarco Murray suffers another injury.
Also injury prone in college, Murray has missed nine games through two NFL seasons. While we weren't fans of Randle's college tape -- he is straight-linish and not particularly elusive or explosive -- he's going to be a worthy handcuff for drafters of Murray. Randle can get what's blocked and catch the ball.

Cowboys WR Danny Coale (ACL) is targeting training camp for a full return to practice.
Coale blew out his knee last November. During OTAs and minicamp, he mostly went through his rehab routine on the side. He needs to be on the field come August to earn a roster spot as insurance in the slot.

Cowboys WR Tim Benford underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee.
Benford will miss the rest of rookie minicamp and OTAs before returning for training camp. The former Tennessee Tech receiver spent the entire 2012 season on the practice squad, and he'll face an uphill battle for a roster spot.
