Jaguars.com suggests CB Alan Ball is heading into OTAs as a starter.
Ball, 28, signed a two-year, $2 million contract and has the ability to play both corner and safety. He also has the size -- 6-foot-2, 197 -- that coach Gus Bradley likes in press-man cornerbacks. Two of Ball, third-rounder Dwayne Gratz, and Marcus Trufant will likely start on the outside with 2012 sixth-rounder Mike Harris covering the slot.

Jaguars signed DB Alan Ball, formerly of the Texans.
Ball can play safety and corner, but he isn't particularly good at either spot. His signing is purely a depth move, and he'll compete for a job in camp.

Free agent DB Alan Ball will visit the Jaguars.
Ladies and gentlemen, the Jags are officially on the board. Ball's visit will mark their first known movement in the free agency. He's a backup-caliber versatile veteran that played corner for the Texans but also has experience at safety.

Texans declared CB Alan Ball (foot) inactive for Sunday's Week 16 game against the Vikings.
Ball hasn't played since going down against the Lions on Thanksgiving. It's not a huge concern with Jonathan Joseph (hamstring, groin) back healthy. The Texans will be going all-out Sunday in an effort to clinch the AFC's No. 1 seed. They could very well rest their stars in Week 17. The rest of their inactives: DB Quintin Demps, CB Stanford Routt, OL Antoine Caldwell, OL Andrew Gardner, OG Cody White and DL Terrell McClain.

Undrafted Jaguars QB Jordan Rodgers will be sidelined until training camp after undergoing sports-hernia surgery.
Aaron's younger brother, Rodgers is competing with fellow undrafted QB Matt Scott for No. 3 duties. This gives the more-talented Scott another leg up in a competition the Jaguars would likely prefer him to win.

Maurice Jones-Drew (foot) said his goal is to resume full-scale workouts in the month ahead of training camp.
Jones-Drew didn't practice with the Jags during Monday's OTAs. Instead, he ran 30-yard dashes at three-quarters speed. "Lately, it's been one day on, a day off, two days on, a day off — it's part of the process," he said. "I'm closer than I think. I just want to take my time and make sure we do it the right way." Rehab from Lisfranc surgery is nothing to be brushed off lightly. We'll be watching MJD's progress closely as he enters a contract year.

Coach Gus Bradley said he's giving suspended WR Justin Blackmon a clean slate.
Blackmon has two DUI arrests and a four-game substance-abuse violation on his resume since 2010. But none of that occurred while Bradley was in contact with the 2012 No. 5 overall pick. The pair is having regular conversations as Blackmon tries to stabilize his life and career. "He's never done anything wrong with me. It'd be different if I was talking to him and I didn't feel like we were connecting at all. I do feel a connection," Bradley said.

During his first official practice with the Jaguars, Brackett sustained a serious knee injury. The pass-catching tight end will need to regain full speed and burst before he can hope for a 2013 roster spot. The Jags re-signed Colin Cloherty to take Brackett's roster spot.
