Per beat writer Ryan O'Halloran, Ball has made the "right kind of impression" in OTAs. That's all good and well, but now 28, Ball played just 85 snaps for the Texans last season. His apparent ascension to No. 1 cornerback speaks to how thin the Jags' secondary is. With Ball apparently locked into a starting job, third-rounder Dwayne Gratz and Marcus Trufant will compete for the other outside job with Mike Harris manning the slot.

Jaguars.com suggests CB Alan Ball is heading into OTAs as a starter.
Ball, 28, signed a two-year, $2 million contract and has the ability to play both corner and safety. He also has the size -- 6-foot-2, 197 -- that coach Gus Bradley likes in press-man cornerbacks. Two of Ball, third-rounder Dwayne Gratz, and Marcus Trufant will likely start on the outside with 2012 sixth-rounder Mike Harris covering the slot.

Ladies and gentlemen, the Jags are officially on the board. Ball's visit will mark their first known movement in the free agency. He's a backup-caliber versatile veteran that played corner for the Texans but also has experience at safety.

Undrafted Jaguars QB Jordan Rodgers will be sidelined until training camp after undergoing sports-hernia surgery.
Aaron's younger brother, Rodgers is competing with fellow undrafted QB Matt Scott for No. 3 duties. This gives the more-talented Scott another leg up in a competition the Jaguars would likely prefer him to win.

Maurice Jones-Drew (Lisfranc surgery) said his foot is now healed and he's concentrating on strengthening his ankle.
The Lisfranc surgery is so brutal because players can't even run for months after it. Jones-Drew is finally able to exercise fully now. "The weight's going to come off as I work out," he said. "All I could do (after surgery) was eat. With this injury, you don't want to break the screws and have to get the surgery over again. I couldn't move." MJD remains questionable for the start of training camp.

Coach Gus Bradley said he's giving suspended WR Justin Blackmon a clean slate.
Blackmon has two DUI arrests and a four-game substance-abuse violation on his resume since 2010. But none of that occurred while Bradley was in contact with the 2012 No. 5 overall pick. The pair is having regular conversations as Blackmon tries to stabilize his life and career. "He's never done anything wrong with me. It'd be different if I was talking to him and I didn't feel like we were connecting at all. I do feel a connection," Bradley said.

Brackett has never appeared in an NFL game since going undrafted out of Penn State in 2011. He spent last year on injured reserve with a knee injury. The pass-catching tight end is expected back to compete for a roster spot at training camp.
