The Miami Herald's Armando Salguero heard from "multiple places" that the Dolphins offered Jake Long more money than the Rams.
Long signed a four-year, $34 million deal with the Rams that included $16 million guaranteed. "More money" can be a subjective term in the NFL because of the labyrinth manner in which most contracts are structured, but it would be extremely surprising if Long took less guaranteed money from the Rams than the Dolphins were offering. The only logical explanation would be an extreme disconnect with the Dolphins' front office.

News Rams LT Jake Long (triceps) is "almost" 100 percent.
"He’s very close," coach Jeff Fisher said. "We expect to have him on the field in mid-OTAs." Fisher insists the Rams have no long-term concerns about Long's health. "We think he’s got a lot of good snaps left. No question. He fought through some injuries, and I think his production dropped because of it. But there’s no reason he doesn’t get back to 100 percent." If Long can't reverse his recent health trend, the Rams are going to have a really bad contract on their hands.

The Miami Herald reports the Dolphins were offering LT Jake Long about $8 million per season before he accepted the Rams' four-year, $36 million offer.
It's unclear how many years Miami was willing to go, but it's unlikely that was the hang-up. It means Long opted to bolt the team that made him the No. 1 overall pick of the 2008 draft for roughly $1 million more per year. For his part, Long says the decision came down to the Rams' "vision and the entire organization." We're guessing the extra $1 million didn't hurt.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Steelers "made a play" for LT Jake Long before he signed with the Rams.
It's extremely interesting, as it shows a lack of faith in Marcus Gilbert and Mike Adams, and indicates the Steelers aren't as hard up for cap space as the public perception. Any Long deal would have been majorly backloaded, but perhaps the Steelers are finally ready to start adding players instead of shedding them. For now, Gilbert is expected to open 2013 as Pittsburgh's left tackle.
