Beanie Wells acknowledged Tuesday that his January 24 right knee surgery was "a little more complicated" than simply repairing his damaged meniscus.
Beanie's agent confirmed to ESPN.com's Mike Sando that the running back did not undergo microfracture surgery "or any other procedure requiring an extended recovery period." Wells isn't practicing this week, though coach Ken Whisenhunt insists the team is playing it safe. Sitting out offseason drills has been the plan all along. "It's coming along pretty good," Wells said. "No setbacks at all, I'm feeling confident about being ready when the time is right." The Cardinals plan is for Beanie to be ready by the start of training camp.

Beanie Wells is still in rehab mode from his January 24 right knee surgery and "doesn't know" when he'll be back on the field.
Wells' knee surgery was arthroscopic, his second of the sort over the past three offseasons. It's fairly concerning that he's not yet ready to practice. "I'm rehabbing, just trying to get back," said Wells. "... Being ready for training camp is the most important thing." Each of Arizona's top two backs -- the other being Ryan Williams -- are recovering from knee surgeries. They both need to be monitored closely by fantasy leaguers.

Speaking at the NFL Combine on Thursday, Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt praised Beanie Wells for the toughness he showed playing through a knee injury in 2011.
"I saw from Beanie this year a toughness and commitment to staying with it no matter what happened," said Whiz. "... I was very impressed with how he fought every week to get back on the field when it would have been easy to say he couldn’t go. I respect him for that." Wells set career highs in starts (14), carries (245), and rushing yards (1,047) despite playing hurt for most of the year. He underwent arthroscopic knee surgery after the season.

Beanie Wells described his recent right knee surgery as a simple clean-up.
It's "just a scope," assured Wells, already rehabbing at the Cardinals facility. Beanie should be available not only for training camp and OTAs, but also for the start of Arizona's off-season work. The procedure should have no impact on his 2012 fantasy draft spot.

Ryan Williams (knee) is doing most of his work on the side with a trainer during Cardinals OTAs.
Williams hasn't reached the point in his recovery where he's ready to participate with teammates. The Cardinals will limit his activity until training camp.

Updating a previous item, Cardinals TE Jeff King's right leg injury is a partially torn quadriceps tendon suffered in offseason workouts.
The injury did require surgery, though coach Ken Whisenhunt expects King to be ready for training camp. Whether or not he's back to 100 percent by August remains to be seen.
