Brandon LaFell's 2013 base salary increased from $575,000 to $1.35 million after he hit escalators in his rookie deal.
LaFell has increased from starting two games as a rookie, to six as a sophomore, and finally 12 this past season. Working as the No. 2 receiver opposite Steve Smith, LaFell caught 44 passes for 677 yards and four touchdowns. However, he's no more than the third option in the passing game behind Smith and Greg Olsen. 2013 will be a make or break year for LaFell.

Brandon LaFell caught five passes for 62 yards in the Panthers' Week 17 win over the Saints.
LaFell nearly had a touchdown, but caught a pass out in front of him while standing on the goal line. It's a fitting end to a somewhat frustrating campaign for LaFell in his first year as the clear-cut No. 2 wideout opposite Steve Smith. He missed two games due to turf toe and managed just 44 catches for 677 yards and four scores, often alternating big games with pass-catching tight end Greg Olsen. The good news is LaFell will be in a contract year in 2013 and Smith will be 34 years old. He'll have flier appeal once again.

It's an upgrade on last week, where LaFell sat out of Wednesday and Thursday's sessions. He'll be ready to roll as a WR4/5 against the Saints after catching five passes for 38 yards in Week 16.

Brandon LaFell caught five balls for 38 yards in the Panthers' Week 16 win over the Raiders.
Targeted seven times, LaFell retook his starting job from Louis Murphy and tied Greg Olsen for second on the team in targets, behind Steve Smith. LaFell will wrap up a mostly underwhelming first season as a full-time starter when the Panthers visit the Saints in Week 17.

The Panthers renegotiated Jonathan Stewart's contract in late January.
Stewart's fully guaranteed $1 million 2013 base salary was lowered to $715,000, while he received a $2.5 million "signing bonus." That money was culled from future bonuses in Stewart's six-year, $37.811 million deal. His $1.5 million 2014 base salary is also now fully guaranteed. It's further proof DeAngelo Williams will likely be a post-June 1 cut.

Pilares went down during Sunday's win over the Redskins and will need surgery. His second NFL season ends with two catches for 42 yards and nine kickoff returns for 216 yards. Joe Adams figures to carry the load in the return game going forward.
