Ravens acquired C A.Q. Shipley from the Colts in exchange for a 2014 conditional draft pick.
After Matt Birk retired, the Ravens were left with 2012 fourth-rounder Gino Gradkowski as their starting center. Shipley, who graded out positively on 476 snaps in front of Andrew Luck last year, will at least bring strong competition. It's another cost-effective, low-risk move for dominant Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome.

Colts promoted C A.Q. Shipley from the practice squad.
DE Mario Addison was waived in a corresponding roster move. Shipley appeared in one game earlier this season. His promotion isn't a good sign for C Samson Satele's (knee) status.

Colts signed C A.Q. Shipley to a reserve/future contract.
The Steelers' seventh-round pick in 2009, Shipley has yet to appear in an NFL game. He was in the Eagles' organization from 2010-2011, while new GM Ryan Grigson was a Philly scout. Shipley may be only a camp body for the Colts.

Shipley had plenty of chances to assert himself while Jamaal Jackson (knee) rehabbed, but never impressed. The Penn State product has extremely short arms, and his fate was sealed when the Birds traded for Reggie Wells.

Ravens assistant GM Eric DeCosta said the team is "very excited" about Jacoby Jones as a receiver this season.
"We're very excited about Jacoby and the progress he made throughout last season," DeCosta said. "We think we've got some very good young players that can step up and contribute. Deonte Thompson isn't a heralded name, but a guy we think is going to be a good player. We're excited about Tandon Doss. David Reed has had a lot of injuries. He's flashed in practice and made plays." Add Tommy Streeter to the list of young receivers who could see a bigger role in 2013. DeCosta also wouldn't rule out the Ravens signing a veteran receiver.

Ravens placed WR LaQuan Williams on injured reserve with a hamstring injury, ending his season.
A deep reserve, Williams appeared in just 11 games on special teams this season, and failed to play a snap on offense. The second-year undrafted free agent will have to claw for a roster spot in 2013.
