ESPN Dallas' Todd Archer hinted that the Cowboys could look to sign MLB Sean Lee to a contract extension before the season.
"With the gain of $3.5 million in cap space on Doug Free move, it gives the Cowboys more room for a Sean Lee extension sometime before the season starts," Archer tweeted. Lee has one year left on his rookie deal, and he's proven to be one of the top linebackers when healthy. Unfortunately, he's missed 13 games in three seasons. Lee could command $8-9 million annually.

Cowboys MLB Sean Lee has no plans to change his style of play despite his lengthy injury history.
Lee suffered a torn ACL at Penn State in 2008, and missed 10 games with a sprained toe last season. In between, he's battled a multitude of minor injuries. "I’m going to try to play a certain way, play hard," Lee said. "I don’t think I would be successful if I didn’t play that way. I’d rather cut a few years off my career and play the right way than go soft and not play right." Lee's injuries likely have as much to do with his spot on the field as his aggressive style. Lee has All-Pro upside if he can stay healthy.

Cowboys MLB Sean Lee says he still feels soreness in his toe but acknowledged that he could play tomorrow if he had to.
"You’re going to feel that soreness, all the way probably until right before camp," Lee said. "It’s progressing really well. If I needed to play tomorrow, I could." Lee has missed 13 games since entering the league in 2010, but he describes the toe injury that cost him ten games last season as a "fluke." The soon-to-be 27-year-old will man the middle in the Cowboys' new 4-3 defense.

The Cowboys are expected to use Sean Lee at middle linebacker in their new 4-3 defense, with Bruce Carter on the weak side.
"He will be absolutely great," ex-Cowboys scouting director Larry Lacewell said of Lee as the 4-3 MIKE. "He’s already great, but when you become a Mike, that means you’re a whole-field player. In the 3-4, you’re a half-the-field player a lot of times. It’s just going to add to his greatness." It could also be a boon to Lee's IDP value. Carter should be a big factor, as well.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports Tony Romo (back surgery) "probably" won't be ready for minicamp.
Romo said earlier Tuesday he was optimistic he'd be ready for June's minicamp, but Rapoport reports the Cowboys are "fine bringing Romo back slowly." They have no reason to rush their franchise signal caller, who should be ready well before training camp.

Cowboys signed fifth-round RB Joseph Randle to a four-year contract.
The Cowboys have very high hopes for Randle, despite the fact that he'll miss all pre-training camp activities due to offseason thumb surgery. An adept pass catcher, Randle does little else well. On tape, it was evident his production was spiked by Oklahoma State's wide-open offense in the defense-deficient Big 12.

"It won't keep him out of training camp, but will limit him during (offseason) training," owner/GM Jerry Jones said. With a $1.2 million base salary, Vickers is squarely on the roster bubble.

Dez Bryant says he's "found (himself)," and is "comfortable" with his life.
"I wish it could've been a couple years back, but I had to go through a couple of things to figure it out," Bryant said of his past troubles. "I think I got it and I'm just more focused on my job and doing what I love to do and that's playing football." The light bulb went off for Bryant on the field last season, and is now doing so off of it. A rare talent, we don't doubt that Bryant can top his 92/1,382/12 2012.

Miles Austin said he is focusing on strengthening his hamstrings this offseason.
Austin played in all 16 games last season, but was consistently bothered by hip and hamstring issues. In 2011, he missed six games with a severe pull. "I'm definitely strengthening my hamstrings a lot more than I have been," said Austin. "Doing a different routine, a couple of extra exercises each day on our leg days."

Coale tore his ACL in November, and it's unlikely that he's going through practice full-speed. It's still good news for the 2012 fifth-round pick because just 11 days ago he had yet to be medically cleared. After spending last season on the practice squad, Coale faces an uphill battle for a roster spot.

Cowboys WR Tim Benford underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee.
Benford will miss the rest of rookie minicamp and OTAs before returning for training camp. The former Tennessee Tech receiver spent the entire 2012 season on the practice squad, and he'll face an uphill battle for a roster spot.
