Per reporter Field Yates, Fletcher wasn't showing "any signs of limitations." He missed all of 2012 with a torn ACL. He's returning as a reserve linebacker and special teamer.

Patriots re-signed LB Dane Fletcher to a one-year contract.
Fletcher was set to be a restricted free agent this offseason, but the Patriots finalized a deal before he was able to talk to other teams on March 12. The third-year pro missed the entire 2012 season with a torn ACL, but his recovery is said to be on a "positive course." Fletcher will return as a key reserve and special teams player.

Patriots restricted free agent LB Dane Fletcher (ACL surgery) believes he can be recovered in time to put in a full offseason.
Fletcher tore his ACL while covering the first punt of the preseason opener. The Patriots begin OTAs in April, and Fletcher will be eight months removed from surgery by then. New England will look to retain Fletcher as a reserve and special teamer, likely with a second-round or "original pick" restricted tender.

Fletcher went unclaimed after being placed on waivers, and won't count against the 53-man roster. The special teamer was set to open the year as the primary backup to MLB Brandon Spikes.

ESPN Boston agrees with the Boston Herald that Patriots WR Julian Edelman is not a lock for a roster spot.
The Patriots waited nearly a month before re-signing Edelman to a contract that includes no guaranteed money, while a setback with his troublesome foot has him questionable for the beginning of camp. Edelman's experience in the Patriots' system and special-teams prowess should give him a leg up on the likes of Donald Jones, Lavelle Hawkins and Michael Jenkins, but only if he's healthy.

NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports the Patriots "(don't) know" how serious Rob Gronkowski's back injury is.
"I wish I knew as much as you'd like me to know," were the words of owner Robert Kraft. Rapoport believes the Pats should consider placing Gronk on the reserve/PUP list, which would hold him out for the first six games of the season. Depending on how Gronk's expected back operation goes, they may not have a choice.

ESPN Boston reports that "word is" Aaron Hernandez (shoulder) can expect a four-month recovery period.
Hernandez underwent a "minor scope" almost three weeks ago, and he is not expected to participate in OTAs or minicamp. It's possible he could even open training camp on the PUP list. There remains plenty of time for Hernandez to be ready for Week 1. The Patriots will likely bring him along slowly.
