Steelers promoted S Da'Mon Cromartie-Smith from the practice squad.
It looks like coach Mike Tomlin is making good on his threat to sit "egregious" offenders on special teams. Look for Cromartie-Smith to see plenty of action there. OG John Malecki was also released, and is expected to be re-signed back to the practice squad next week.

Steelers promoted S Da'Mon Cromartie-Smith from the practice squad.
A second year undrafted free agent out of UTEP, Cromartie-Smith has never before appeared in an NFL game. He'll be a special teamer for what will likely be a short stint on the Steelers' active roster.

Steelers signed S Da'Mon Cromartie-Smith to a reserve/future contract.
Cromartie-Smith went undrafted last April out of UTEP, where he was a three-year starter at strong safety. He'll try to hang around on special teams.

Steelers re-signed S Da'Mon Cromartie-Smith and waived/injured S Tuff Harris.
Harris had a shoulder injury, the extent of which is unknown. Cromartie-Smith offers an intriguing size-speed combo, but it's not a good sign that he went unsigned after the Steelers waived him in June. He won't make the club.

Ben Roethlisberger says Heath Miller (knee surgery) is walking without a limp.
Miller tore his ACL, MCL and PCL 3 1/2 months ago. It's a good sign that he's off crutches, but he's limited to weightlifting work for now and remains a strong bet to start the year on the PUP list. The Steelers have been linked to Notre Dame TE Tyler Eifert with the No. 17 overall pick in next week's draft.
