Stevan Ridley showed up to the Patriots' conditioning program "looking like a house" after adding "a noticeable amount of muscle" in the offseason.
Beat writer Jeff Howe suggests Ridley "might be even more difficult to tackle" now. In 2012, Ridley finished seventh in the NFL in rush yards after contact while tying Reggie Bush and Arian Foster for the 11th most missed tackles among running backs, per Pro Football Focus' charted stats. As long as Ridley hasn't gained a ton of weight to slow him down, we're on board with additional muscle.

Stevan Ridley confirmed he is fully recovered from the concussion he suffered in the AFC Championship Game against the Ravens.
"I thank the Lord that I'm healthy and brought me back," Ridley said. "All I can do now is move forward from that, but it was a nice hit that I took. Just got to shake it off. Comes with the game. It was one of the worst ones that I took in my life. I'll be out here this year ready to go." Ridley finished as fantasy's No. 11 running back last season, rushing for 1,263 yards and 12 scores.

Stevan Ridley had two drops on eight catchable passes in 2012.
No one is going to mistake Ridley for Marshall Faulk. He caught just six passes on 14 targets all season and rarely played on third downs. Still, he's just 24 years old and has the athletic ability to improve in the receiving game. Already a lock for the feature back role and all the goal-line work in New England, Ridley projects as a strong second-round selection in 2013 fantasy drafts.

Stevan Ridley was forced from the AFC Championship Game with a head injury, and will not return.
Taking the rock from the Patriots' 39-yard-line early in the fourth quarter, Ridley got destroyed by Ravens SS Bernard Pollard, losing a fumble on a (legal) helmet-to-helmet hit. He's almost certainly concussed. Ridley was doing his best to move the chains against an inspired Ravens D before departing, rushing 18 times for 70 yards. Although Ridley's latest lost fumble may have Dynasty-league owners fretting, it would be cruel of coach Bill Belichick to hold it against him, as Pollard's hit would have jarred the ball loose from almost any rusher.

ESPN Boston agrees with the Boston Herald that Patriots WR Julian Edelman is not a lock for a roster spot.
The Patriots waited nearly a month before re-signing Edelman to a contract that includes no guaranteed money, while a setback with his troublesome foot has him questionable for the beginning of camp. Edelman's experience in the Patriots' system and special-teams prowess should give him a leg up on the likes of Donald Jones, Lavelle Hawkins and Michael Jenkins, but only if he's healthy.

Patriots owner Robert Kraft confirmed Rob Gronkowski's fourth arm surgery went "as good as he could have hoped."
Per Kraft, Gronk will be back "as soon as possible." Right now, "as soon as possible" appears to be mid-August. That's because Gronk is tentatively slated for "minor" back surgery some time in the next 3-4 weeks. Like Robert Griffin III, Gronk's Week 1 status will be hard to accurately gauge before training camp.

ESPN Boston reports that "word is" Aaron Hernandez (shoulder) can expect a four-month recovery period.
Hernandez underwent a "minor scope" almost three weeks ago, and he is not expected to participate in OTAs or minicamp. It's possible he could even open training camp on the PUP list. There remains plenty of time for Hernandez to be ready for Week 1. The Patriots will likely bring him along slowly.

The Patriots still have "high hopes" for TE Jake Ballard (knee).
Thanks to the injury woes of Rob Gronkowski (arm) and Aaron Hernandez (shoulder), Ballard's rehab has taken on a different context. If he can get on the field for the offseason program, he'll be the temporary No. 1 pass-catching tight end at practices. Ballard caught 38 passes for 604 yards and four touchdowns while with the Giants during the 2011 season. He sustained a torn left ACL during that year's Super Bowl.
