Chiefs OLB Justin Houston's 9.5 sacks since Week 13 of last season are tied with Jared Allen and DeMarcus Ware for the NFL lead.
It's obviously heady company. Houston already has four sacks this season after taking down Drew Brees three times last week. "Physically, he's an absolute freak," teammate Tamba Hali said. "I think Justin is learning how to go about the technique. ... The kid is good."

Coach Romeo Crennel expects to see "good improvement" from 2011 third-round OLB Justin Houston this season.
Houston closed out his rookie season with 5.5 sacks in his final five games after a late-season promotion. The Chiefs believe he can be a pass-rushing complement to right outside linebacker Tamba Hali. "He's 270 pounds, and he can run," ILB Derrick Johnson said. "Tamba even looks at him and he wishes he was that big and could run like that."

Third-round pick Justin Houston was voted Chiefs Rookie of the Year after racking up 5.5 sacks in the team's final six games.
Despite not playing extensively early in the season, Houston ranked second on the Chiefs in sacks (behind Tamba Hali). Houston started down the stretch, though, and complemented the sack total with four pass breakups, 56 tackles (46 solo), and a forced fumble. He shouldn't struggle to be a starter in 2012.

Chiefs signed No. 70 overall pick Justin Houston to a four-year, $2.78 million contract.
Houston took longer than expected to sign his rookie deal, perhaps because the Chiefs were trying to protect themselves in the contract after he failed a drug test at the Combine. An absolute terror off the edge in the SEC, Houston will compete for nickel rushing snaps with Cam Sheffield, who's no slouch himself.

There's no word on whether Draughn underwent surgery. A third-year UDFA out of North Carolina, Draughn was serviceable in the Jamaal Charles backup role last season, but will be guaranteed nothing under the new Kansas City regime. He can't afford to miss much time after Knile Davis was drafted in the third round.

Copper, 31 in March, caught eight passes for 79 yards on the season, but he holds more value to the Chiefs as a special teams player. He's under contract for $840,000 in 2013. Hemingway was taken in the seventh round of this past year's draft out of Michigan.
