Dolphins TE/FB Charles Clay underwent surgery to repair the torn ligament in his right knee sustained in mid-December.
Clay went under the knife after the Week 15 game. It's still unclear which ligament was damaged. As long as it's not an ACL injury, Clay should be ready for the beginning of training camp in late July. Clay, who turns 24 in February, wrapped up his second NFL season with 18 catches for 212 yards and a pair of scores. It will be interesting to see whether the Dolphins consider starting the athletic Clay with Anthony Fasano set to hit free agency.

Dolphins TE/FB Charles Clay tore a ligament in his right knee during Sunday's win over the Jaguars, ending his season.
He was placed on injured reserve. Clay's second NFL season ends with 18 catches for 212 yards and two touchdowns. That includes a fluky 6/84/1 explosion against the Seahawks in Week 12. The H-back type will return next season, possibly with a more expanded role thanks to Anthony Fasano's impending free agency.

Dolphins TE Charles Clay left Sunday's Week 15 game against the Jaguars with a second-quarter injury to his right knee.
He's not expected to return, although the extent of the injury is unclear. Clay is Anthony Fasano's backup, playing about 40 percent of the snaps.

Daniel Thomas believes he's a legitimate contender for the Dolphins' starting running back job.
Thomas must not be watching much of his own film. "I don’t know why (Lamar Miller) would have the inside track," Thomas said incredulously Tuesday. "It’s an open competition. Everybody has a fair shot. The best player is going to get the job. Nobody has a leg up." Thomas does admit he's been "inconsistent" since being the No. 62 overall pick of the 2011 draft. All signs suggest the Dolphins want and expect Miller to be their No. 1 back.
