Former Steelers WR Hines Ward has joined NBC as an analyst across the NBC Sports Group's NFL, college, and studio programming.
Ward will contribute to Sunday's
Football Night in America,
serve as a studio analyst on NBC's college football programming, and also work for NBC Sports Network. As a former Super Bowl MVP and

Steelers WR Hines Ward announced his retirement from football.
In an emotional press conference, the career Steeler said he considered trying to latch on elsewhere following his February release, but that he ultimately had no interest in wearing another uniform. "I can say I am a Steeler for life. And that's the bottom line," Ward said. "That's all I really wanted to do." It's possible Ward didn't receive a single phone call after what little remained of his separation skills disappeared last season, but he'll go down as an icon for a franchise that has many of them. A fearsome blocker, Ward will retire with exactly 1,000 career catches to go along with 12,083 receiving yards and 85 touchdowns. One of the toughest — sometimes dirtiest — players of his era, Ward has a shot at one day seeing his bust in Canton. We'd ultimately bet against Ward making the Hall, but Art Monk's recent enshrinement bodes well. Like Monk, Ward was a possession receiver.

Mike Jurecki of XTRA 910 in Arizona is "hearing" that the Cardinals don't have any interest in Hines Ward.
The connection with Ward's ex-Steelers coaches is obvious, but the eye in the sky doesn't lie. Ward wants to play again, but we can't imagine any team giving him more than a cursory look in training camp. Those types of players get signed deep into the offseason, not in the first days of free agency.

Free agent Hines Ward's 8.3 yards per catch average was the lowest in the league for a wide receiver with at least 40 receptions last season.
The statistic was pointed out by a personnel director whose franchise was rumored to be interested in Ward. Devoid of playmaking ability and battling concussions the past two seasons, Ward may not be granted his wish to play at least one more season.

Heath Miller (torn ACL) remains without a timetable for a return, but believes "there’s a chance" he'll be ready for Week 1.
"I’m running now. I’m doing everything," Miller said. "I’m not at full speed, but I’ve been able to do everything that they’ve asked me to do. So, I’m pleased and encouraged. It’s been a long process. ... But I’m going to keep taking it one day at a time and get better every day." The Steelers didn't draft a tight end, so they're clearly counting on Miller contributing in 2013. He's too risky to count on as a low-end TE1 for fantasy purposes, however.
