SI.com's Don Banks attended Redskins OTA practice on Monday, and came away "struck" by the high volume of rollouts Robert Griffin III performed in team drills.
RG3 also played exclusively in the shotgun at Baylor, so the Skins are training him to play from center. "If Griffin took even one snap in the shot-gun formation on Monday, I missed it," Banks wrote. Banks observed that Griffin was "deadly accurate" on outside-the-pocket throws. The bootleg- and rollout-heavy offense plays directly to Griffin's strengths as a big-armed athlete. He should push for top-ten quarterback stats immediately in the Shanahans' offense.

Coach Mike Shanahan believes the Redskins are capable of "challenging defenses in unprecedented ways" with Robert Griffin III at quarterback.
"The NFL is not used to a quarterback with his type of speed and his type of throwing ability," Shanahan said. "I think we can do some things that people haven’t done." Shanahan confirmed Sunday that RG3 is "ahead of schedule" in his grasp of the offense, and thinks he can be a "game-changing player" in a system that once helped send John Elway and Steve Young to the Hall of Fame. "He can make any throw on the field," said Shanahan. "... He fits into our system perfectly because we like to run play-action, quarterback keeps, bootlegs. With his speed, he can get on the edge and do things most quarterbacks can’t do."

Redskins coach Mike Shanahan confirmed Sunday that rookie Robert Griffin III will open full-squad OTAs with the first-team offense.
Not that there was ever any doubt. "He's the starter. Period," Shanahan said. It's notable because the Skins aren't making Griffin "compete" with Rex Grossman, and he'll handle a full dose of reps. They're not wasting any time. At the Redskins' rookie minicamp, Griffin drew raves for his live arm, ball placement on over-the-shoulder throws, and immediate understanding of the offense.

Redskins selected Baylor QB Robert Griffin III with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft.
The complete package physically and mentally, Griffin offers rare athleticism, quick feet, a canon arm, impressive pocket presence, and uncanny downfield accuracy to go with a high football IQ and unparalleled charisma. He led the nation in yards per attempt (10.7) while completing 72.4 percent of his passes. A perfect fit for Mike Shanahan's bootleg-heavy offense, the Heisman winner has agility inside and out of the pocket with the ability to make all of the throws. While Griffin will make his living as a passer, his fantasy value gets a boost from his running ability and the Redskins' free-agent additions at wide receiver. He could be on the periphery of QB1 status by the time fantasy drafts roll around this summer.

Tim Hightower (ACL surgery) is sitting out Redskins OTAs.
Hightower got in a conditioning workout after Monday's practice, but Roy Helu and Evan Royster are taking the first-team reps at tailback. Hightower already knows the offense, so he won't be behind when training camp starts. Beat writer Chris Russell expects him to be medically cleared "by mid July."

Rich Tandler of CSN Washington is the latest Redskins beat writer to list Leonard Hankerson as a starter over Josh Morgan.
Hankerson is coming off hip surgery, but figures to be practice-ready by June 11 minicamp. Tandler considers Pierre Garcon, Hankerson, and Morgan the only locks to make the team, which seems to give Morgan the advantage over Santana Moss for the No. 3 job. Hankerson, Morgan, and Moss figure to see time in the slot.
