NFL draft insider Tony Pauline "hears" that the Falcons plan to move Peter Konz to center in 2013, replacing free agent Todd McClure.
McClure is 36 years old, and it sounds like he's played his final down in Atlanta. Konz, the 55th overall pick in last year's draft, made 12 starts as a rookie right guard, including both playoff games. He was a liability as both a run and pass blocker, but the Falcons believe he will thrive at center.

Falcons signed rookie G/C Peter Konz, the No. 55 overall pick, to a four-year contract.
Konz will compete for Atlanta's starting right guard job as a rookie, but he projects as C Todd McClure's successor in the long term. In order to excel as a run blocker in the Falcons' power-blocking scheme, Konz will have to improve his strength. While he should pass block effectively at 6'5/314 with 33-inch arms, Konz's upper body has lots of room for improvement.

Falcons second-round pick Peter Konz fell to the 55th pick in the draft due to medical concerns about his ankle and blood clotting.
He checked out medically with Atlanta, though, and the Falcons plan to use Konz at right guard while grooming him as their center of the future. "Everything checked out fine," GM Thomas Dimitroff said of Konz's medical. "The blood clots were an anomaly. ... He's cleared up very well. He's a durable guy."

Falcons GM Thomas Dimitroff confirms second-round pick Peter Konz will be listed as a guard/center as a rookie.
"I can’t emphasize enough how important it is Konz can play both guard and center," Dimitroff said. "We have him listed as a guard-center." This lends credence to the notion that Konz will play right guard as a rookie before eventually taking over for 35-year-old C Todd McClure. McClure isn't signed beyond 2012.
