Saints agreed to terms with No. 75 overall pick OT Terron Armstead on a four-year contract.
Armstead set a Combine record among offensive linemen with his 4.71 forty, and he has drawn comparisons to Texans All-Pro LT Duane Brown. Armstead will compete with 2010 second-rounder Charles Brown for the starting left tackle job.

Saints GM Mickey Loomis "wouldn't rule out" third-round OT Terron Armstead winning the left-tackle job.
"There's a competition there," Loomis said. The Saints are thin on Drew Brees' blindside, so it's not exactly a surprise. Armstead has prototypical size and freaky measurables, but is jumping from the SWAC to NFL. Left tackle would be a daring spot to stick a player who was squaring off with the likes of Jackson State and Prairie View A&M last season. With just Charles Brown and Jason Smith to compete with Armstead, the Saints may not be done adding bodies.

The Times-Picayune calls third-round OT Terron Armstead the "most intriguing player" in the Saints' draft class.
The Saints have major concerns at left tackle. Jermon Bushrod is in Chicago, Charles Brown has never been able to stay healthy and Jason Smith has been a bust. Armstead is raw coming out of Arkansas Pine-Bluff, but his measurables are off the charts. He could be protecting Drew Brees' blind side sooner rather than later.

Saints selected Arkansas-Pine Bluff OT Terron Armstead with the No. 75 overall pick.
It's an excellent fit in terms of both value and need for the Saints, who lost LT Jermon Bushrod in free agency. Armstead (6-foot-4 3/4, 306) set an NFL Combine record for offensive linemen with a 4.71 forty-yard dash, and tied Oklahoma's Lane Johnson for this year's fastest ten-yard split (1.64). His vertical was 34 1/2 inches. Drawing pre-draft comparisons to Texans All-Pro Duane Brown, Armstead is a long-armed (34") left tackle with rare movement skills and sky-high upside. Concerns are his level of competition and a medical red flag on Armstead's back, discovered during pre-draft exams. Along with a shoulder issue from last season, it's why the athletic freak slipped this far.

Saints coach Sean Payton promises the looming contract showdown with Jimmy Graham will have no effect on where Graham lines up in 2013.
Graham, entering a contract year, is going to want to be paid as a receiver whether it's on a long-term deal or franchise tag. He could command upwards of $12 million annually. "We're going to put people in different spots all the time to get them open," said Payton. "Whatever we have to do is not going to be dictated by the interpretation of some rule. We're just going to try to win."
