C | 1 | Sean Couturier SidelinedSean Couturier (lower body) skated on his own Thursday. Couturier was also on the ice Wednesday after sustaining the injury during Tuesday's practice. As previously reported, he's traveling with the team to Pittsburgh, which keeps the possibility of him playing in Game 5 alive. For now he's day-to-day though. "I'm just coming to the rink every day, getting treatments and trying to feel better," Couturier said. "I guess the thing is see how I feel tomorrow morning. It's really up to my body. See how it keeps progressing and how I feel. Hopefully I'm good tomorrow." Apr 19 |
Nolan Patrick ActiveNolan Patrick will center Claude Giroux and Jakub Voracek on Wednesday night. Patrick is centering the top line because Sean Couturier is unavailable for this game. The 19-year-old has one goal and one assist in three games during the postseason. This is a great opportunity for the rookie. Apr 18
Valtteri Filppula ActiveValtteri Filppula will be in the Flyer lineup Sunday afternoon against Boston. Filppula injured his arm in Wednesday's contest against Colorado but he practised on Friday and seems good to go against the Bruins. Apr 1
Jori Lehtera ActiveJori Lehtera will be a healthy scratch in Saturday's game against Carolina. The Flyers will be making a small change swapping Lehtera with Jordan Weal and will have Alex Lyon in goal to start the game. Taylor Leier and Dale Weise are also expected to be scratched. Mar 17
LW | 1 | Claude Giroux ActiveWith the Flyers down 3-1 in their series to the Penguins, Claude Giroux doesn't believe that the team's issue has been a lack of compete. "You know what, I think our compete level is pretty good," Giroux said. "I know it’s tough to see. I think the guys are working a little too hard, we’re not playing smart enough, gripping our sticks a little too much. I think we need to take a breather and play some hockey. Yeah, we’re not ready for our season to be over. When we go to Pittsburgh, tough building to play in. We know we can win there. We know if we play our game, we can win. So, we’re going to go out there, play our game and be back for Game 6." Game 5 will be played Friday night. The Penguins have looked like the better team throughout most of the series and that's because in most ways, they are. Nevertheless, the Flyers have some big weapons on their side like Giroux and you never know what might happen when your best players get hot. Certainly the Flyers have a real chance of staying in this series even if it would be an uphill climb. Apr 20 |
Travis Konecny ActiveTravis Konecny moved up to the second line at Tuesday's practice. Konecny skated alongside Nolan Patrick and Wayne Simmonds in the session. He has one goal in three games during Philadelphia's first-round series against Pittsburgh. Oskar Lindblom had been playing on the second unit, but he was the odd man out during the session. Apr 17
Oskar Lindblom ActiveOskar Lindblom scored the first goal of his NHL career on Sunday. It was quite the weekend for the rookie who picked up his first NHL assist Saturday in his 13th game and topped it off Sunday with his first goal. Lindblom has lots of upside but you would not know it by his performance this season. Mar 19
Scott Laughton ActiveScott Laughton will be a healthy scratch in Tuesday's game against the Islanders. This is the first game Laughton will miss all season. He's gone 20 games without scoring a goal, so it's not shocking to see him come out of the lineup. Robert Hagg, Taylor Leier, Dale Weise and Johnny Oduya will also serve as healthy scratches on Tuesday. Apr 3
Jordan Weal ActiveJordan Weal could be back in the lineup for Game 4 on Wednesday night. Weal skated alongside Valtteri Filppula and Michael Raff at Tuesday's practice. He was a healthy scratch for the first three games of the series. Weal accounted for two goals and two assists in three games versus Pittsburgh during the regular season. Apr 17
Taylor Leier ActiveThe Flyers are projected to scratch Taylor Leier on Thursday. It would be Leier's fifth consecutive game in the press box. He has a goal and five points in 39 contests in 2017-18. Mar 15
RW | 1 | Jakub Voracek ActiveJakub Voracek was back on the top line during Tuesday's practice. Voracek skated alongside Claude Giroux and Sean Couturier. Couturier's injury during the session may result in some additional changes prior to Game 4 on Wednesday night, but the reunion of Voracek and Giroux seems like it could be a possibility. Apr 17 |
Wayne Simmonds ActiveWayne Simmonds has been dropped to the second power play. He was replaced on the top unit by rookie Nolan Patrick. "I wasn’t playing well and I’ve got to do better," Simmonds said on Thursday. "I’ve got to be a better player. Patty’s done a great job in front of the net when he’s been in front of the net this year so he got two huge goals and got us back into the game. I feel no way about it. The kid’s a great player and he deserves everything he’s getting." Simmonds will play alongside Travis Konecny and Oskar Lindblom with Ivan Provorov and Travis Sanheim on the points as the Flyers meet Pittsburgh in the battle of Pennsylvania in the first round of the playoffs. Apr 8
Michael Raffl ActiveMichael Raffl (upper body) is healthy again and could be back in the lineup on Tuesday night. Raffl has been sidelined since Mar. 18 due to an upper-body injury. He skated at Monday's practice and appears as though he is ready to play. Apr 2
Matt Read ActiveMatt Read was terrific on the penalty kill Thursday as the Penguins were unable to score in four attempts. Read spent most of the season in the minors and while the former 20-goal scorer had only one goal this season in 19 games, he was a valuable March addition as he helped out the penalty kill give up only five goals on 33 chances. The Penguins had the NHL's best power play in the regular season with 68 goals but have managed to score only once in two games. "I think we frustrated them the first couple of power plays," Read said. "When they’re frustrated, they’re trying to make more seam passes. It just made it easier for us. We took away their seam passes, kept them outside and (Brian Elliott) made a couple big saves for us." Apr 15
Dale Weise ActiveThe Philadelphia Flyers will scratch forward Dale Weise tonight. Weise has disappointed with just eight points in 45 games this season. He will join Jordan Weal and Taylor Leier in the press box. Mar 12
D | 1 | Shayne Gostisbehere ActiveShayne Gostisbehere posted an assist in Wednesday's 2-1 win at Colorado, giving him 60 points in 2017-18. Gostisbehere is one of just four Philadelphia rearguards in franchise history to record 60 or more points in a single season. Garry Galley did it twice, Behn Wilson did it once, and Mark Howe accomplished the feat three times. Mar 29 |
Ivan Provorov ActiveIvan Provorov registered two assists in Friday's 5-1 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Flyers showed signs of life after struggling mightily in the opening game of the series. Provorov picked up the primary assist on Sean Couturier's second-period goal, which gave Philadelphia a 2-0 lead at the time. The Russian blue liner also registered a helper on Travis Konecny's tally in the third to make it 3-0. He finished the night with a plus-2 rating and three hits in 27:30 of ice time. This best-of-seven series is all tied up at one. Game 3 will be played in Philadelphia on Sunday afternoon. Apr 13
Andrew MacDonald ActiveAndrew MacDonald has reached the 20-point milestone. MacDonald got there by registering an assist in the Flyers' 2-1 win on Wednesday. He's not an offensive defenseman, but this is the third time in his career that he's reached the 20-point mark. In 2016-17, he finished just shy of the milestone with 18 points in 73 games. Mar 29
Radko Gudas ActiveRadko Gudas had a fight and a couple of minors on Sunday. It has been a while for Gudas as he had gone 12 games without a penalty and 14 games since his last major. He has 75 points to go with a couple of goals and 10 points in 54 games. He has limited fantasy value. Mar 5
Brandon Manning ActiveBrandon Manning will be a healthy scratch in Tuesday's game against the Detroit Red Wings. Manning has now been scratched in back-to-back games. He has six goals and 16 points in 57 games this season. Taylor Leier and Dale Weise will also watch the game from the press box on Tuesday night. Mar 20
Travis Sanheim ActiveTravis Sanheim will probably be a healthy scratch in Game 5 on Friday. Sanheim is being removed from the lineup to make room for Robert Hagg. Hagg brings more to the table physically while Sanheim has been somewhat quiet in this series with a goal and no assists in four games. Sanheim was averaging a modest 15:30 minutes in the first round. Apr 20
Robert Hagg ActiveRobert Hagg is projected to be put in the lineup for Game 5 Friday night. It would be Hagg's first career playoff game. The 23-year-old defenseman is a major physical presence and that should help the Flyers as they fight to keep their campaign alive. Travis Sanheim is projected to be a healthy scratch to make room in the lineup. Apr 20
Johnny Oduya ActiveJohnny Oduya will be among Philadelphia's healthy scratches again on Sunday afternoon for Game 3 versus Pittsburgh. The Flyers will ice the lineup, in terms of personnel, that they had in Friday's 5-1 victory over the Penguins. That will put Robert Hagg, Taylor Leier, Jordan Weal and Dale Weise in the press box. Apr 15
G | 1 | Brian Elliott ActiveBrian Elliott got pulled after allowing three goals on 17 shots in Wednesday's 5-0 Game 4 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins. Kris Letang's shot took a deflection off of Andrew MacDonald's stick before finding its way into the net. Elliott looked visibly frustrated after that goal and it forced head coach Dave Hakstol to pull him in favor of Michal Neuvirth. Heading back to Pittsburgh down 3-1 in the series, the Flyers will have to think long and hard who they want to put in goal in a do-or-die game. Apr 18 |
Petr Mrazek ActivePetr Mrazek allowed five goals on 37 shots in Tuesday's 5-4 loss to the New York Islanders. The Flyers were down 4-1 in the third period, but they managed to tie the game thanks to two goals by Nolan Patrick and another by Claude Giroux. But Mathew Barzal scored the game-winner for the Islanders later on in the final frame. Mrazek now has a 14-13-6 record with a 3.03 goals-against-average and a .902 save percentage this season. The Flyers netminder has dropped three of his last four games (1-1-2). Philadelphia failed to clinch a playoff spot tonight. Apr 3
Dustin Tokarski ActiveDustin Tokarski has been recalled by Philadelphia. Tokarski is presumably up with the Flyers to serve as the team's third goaltender in the playoffs. That will allow Alex Lyon and Anthony Stolarz to stay in the AHL for Lehigh Valley's postseason run. Apr 11
Michal Neuvirth ActiveMichal Neuvirth allowed two goals on 13 shots in Wednesday's 5-0 Game 4 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins. Neuvirth replaced starter Brian Elliott after the latter allowed three goals on 17 shots through a little more than 28 minutes of play. Considering both goaltenders struggled tonight, the Flyers have a real question mark in goal heading back to Pittsburgh for Friday's Game 5 do-or-die game. Apr 18
