| Pos | Role | Name |
| C | 1 | Brad Richards ActiveBrad Richards isn't on the ice for the Rangers' pre-game warmups. It looks like Richards will be a healthy scratch as expected. It wouldn't be surprising if we've seen him play in his last game as a member of the New York Rangers. May 25 |
Derek Stepan ActiveDerek Stepan registered his third goal of the playoffs in Thursday's 3-2 overtime loss to Boston. He didn't record a point in Games 5, 6 and 7 against Washington in the first round. Stepan's marker ended that cold streak and it gave the Rangers a 2-1 lead early in the third. May 17
Brian Boyle ActiveBrian Boyle's goal 10 minutes into the third period Wednesday night ended the New York Rangers' 0-for-12 drought on the power play. That number doesn't even really begin to describe it. Prior to Boyle's goal, the Rangers were an abysmal 2-for-39 with the man advantage this postseason. Not only did Boyle's goal finally make an opponent pay for putting the Rangers on the power play, but it stood up as the tying goal and eventually sent the game into overtime, where Chris Kreider won it to force Game 5 in Boston on Saturday. May 24
Derick Brassard ActiveRanger coach John Tortorella's line shuffle in the third period of Game 4 Thursday night was a boon to center Derick Brassard. Tortorella moved Brassard between Carl Hagelin and Ryan Callahan while shifting Derek Stepan between Chris Kreider and Rick Nash. The effect of this shuffle was that Zdeno Chara played when the Stepan line was on the ice giving Brassard and his unit a little more room without the 6'7" defender in their way. It will be interesting to see if Tortorella can continue to ice this alignment without the last change in Boston Saturday night. May 25
Darroll Powe SidelinedDarroll Powe (undisclosed) said he wouldn't be back in New York's lineup for Game 4 Thursday night. He hasn't played since Game 3 against Washington on May 6 due to a suspected concussion. May 23
Kris Newbury ActiveKris Newbury and Micheal Haley took part in Thursday's morning skate. Brad Richards has already been scratched and Arron Asham is uncertain to play, so Newbury and/or Haley could be playing in Game 4. Coach John Tortorella wouldn't talk about his lineup for the contest. Newbury dressed in Game 1 versus Washington in the opening round, but hasn't played since, while Haley has never played in an NHL playoff game before and he suited up in just nine games with the Rangers during the regular season. May 23
| LW | 1 | Carl Hagelin ActiveCarl Hagelin's deflected back-handed goal got the Rangers on the board Thursday night and helped spark the offense the rest of the night. Although Henrik Lundqvist called it "probably the ugliest goal I've ever seen," there's no denying the impact it had on the psyche of a Rangers team that was down 2-0 in the game and 3-0 in the series. "Carl’s goal gave us life," said Derek Stepan, whose goal 1:15 into the third period tied the game at 2-2. The Rangers eventually won 4-3 in overtime to force Game 5 in Boston on Saturday night. May 24 |
Ryane Clowe SidelinedRyane Clowe participated in the morning skate, but if he is fact out with a concussion then it would be hard to see him play in Game 4 Thursday night. He hasn't played since Game 5 of the first round with a possible concussion. Clowe hasn't resumed full contact and he hasn't skated in a full practice with his teammates, so he should be considered doubtful to return Thursday. May 23
Brandon Mashinter ActiveBrandon Mashinter was returned to the minors on Wednesday. He skated in four games with the Rangers, while averaging almost six minutes and didn't record a point. Mashinter posted seven hits and two shots during his NHL stint. Feb 28
Chris Kreider ActiveChris Kreider scored the overtime winner for the Rangers Thursday in a 4-3 overtime win over Boston. The win keeps the Blueshirts alive despite now trailing 3-1 in their second round playoff series. Derek Stepan picked up a goal and an assist in the victory while Brian Boyle and Carl Hagelin also found the back of the net. Derick Brassard contributed to the cause with a pair of assists in the win. May 23
JT Miller SidelinedJT Miller has been shut down and sent home because of a wrist injury. He had been skating as part of the Rangers' Black Aces squad during the playoffs. However, now he'll get an early start on his rehab. Miller skated in 26 games with the Rangers during the regular season. May 13
Ryan Bourque ActiveRyan Bourque potted the game-winning goal in Connecticut's 3-2 win over Springfield on Sunday evening. With 14 points, Bourque had a disappointing 2011-12 campaign, his first after jumping to the pros from the QMJHL, but he's looked a little more comfortable this. He also added an assist, so he already has eight points in 13 games. Matt Gilroy also notched a goal in the win for the Whale. Nov 25
| RW | 1 | Rick Nash ActiveRick Nash threaded a picture-perfect setup on Chris Kreider's game-winning overtime deflection in Thursday's Game 4. Kreider was asked after the game how it felt to have the Rangers' season on his stick and his response was near perfect. "It wasn’t on my stick a very long time," Kreider said. "Nash kind of used me as a backstop, and that’s what great players do." Although Nash didn't score for the 10th time in the Rangers' 11 postseason games, the pass to Kreider was about as perfect as the rookie could ask for. The puck landed just beyond the stick of defender Dougie Hamilton and the pass was hard enough to create a deflection that was really difficult for Tuukka Rask to stop in time. The Rangers need Nash to score, but assists like the one Thursday night certainly help. May 24 |
Ryan Callahan ActiveRyan Callahan and the New York Rangers are adopting the "one-win at a time" philosophy as they try to claw their way back into their semifinal series against Boston. "We're not looking at odds or anything like that," said Callahan whose team trails the Bruins in the series 3-0. "We're looking at one game at home, and we'll try to bring this thing back to Boston. That's the only way we can look at it, to try to win one game in our building." Three teams have recovered from this type of deficit before to win an NHL series and Boston was the latest victim of that circumstance in 2010 against Philadelphia. May 23
Mats Zuccarello ActiveMats Zuccarello potted his first career playoff goal in Game 7 against Washington. He scored the final marker of the contest to make it 5-0 for the Rangers. "The Norwegian Hobbit" recorded five points in seven games versus the Capitals in the first round and the Rangers will count on him to supply more offense against Boston in the semifinals. May 15
Taylor Pyatt ActiveTaylor Pyatt was credited with New York's only goal in a 2-1 loss to the Boston Bruins in Game 3 Tuesday night. The goal was originally thought to be scored by defenseman Ryan McDonagh, but after a review it was given to Pyatt on the tip. The Rangers carried a 1-0 lead into the third period, but the Bruins netted two goals in the final frame to take a commanding 3-0 series lead. Derek Stepan led the club with five shots and Ryan Callahan posted a game-high seven hits to go with four shots. John Moore finished with a minus-1 rating and a game-high four blocks. May 21
Derek Dorsett ActiveThe Washington Capitals were upset with Derek Dorsett after Game 6 because they feel he slew-footed Mike Green in the third period. Green was assessed a penalty for cross-checking Dorsett in retaliation, which angered the Capitals. "That play to me is the one that does concern me because it looked like a slew-foot to me and obviously that's why Mike reacted," coach Adam Oates said. "Mike's not that type of player, and you're watching it. To me it looks like a slew-foot. Very dangerous play. Greenie's one of those guys that they want to target, but to me, that's a very dangerous play." May 13
Arron Asham ActiveArron Asham and Ryane Clowe weren't on the ice for New York's pregame warmup. It wasn't clear if Asham and Clowe would be in the lineup Thursday for Game 4 following a question-filled morning skate, but now it looks like they won't suit up. Marc Staal and Anton Stralman shouldn't be expected to play either after they didn't come out for the warmup as well. May 23
Micheal Haley ActiveMicheal Haley and Kris Newbury took line rushes on the Rangers' fourth unit during Thursday's pregame warmup. They are projected to play alongside Derek Dorsett in Game 4 Thursday night. May 23
Christian Thomas ActiveChristian Thomas has been sent to the minors by the New York Rangers. Thomas made his NHL debut on Saturday. He has 13 goals and 24 points in 52 AHL contests in 2012-13. Feb 25
Brandon Segal ActiveArron Asham's return from a suspension means Brandon Segal will end his brief time in the New York Rangers rotation. He collected two penalty minutes in a skimpy (5:21 TOI) showing on Saturday. He's at least a moderately experienced extra body for the Rangers with 104 career NHL games under his belt. Jan 20
| D | 1 | Daniel Girardi ActiveDaniel Girardi posted a minus-4 rating in Game 2 versus Boston and was on the ice for all five of the Bruins' goals in a 5-2 loss Sunday. He was out with Michael Del Zotto for the Bruins' last four goals. Girardi is typically one of the team's most dependable defenseman, but he had a rough game in his own zone. As a result of his struggles, he logged a playoff low 19:29 of ice time. Look for him to be better in Game 3 Tuesday night when the semifinal series shifts back to New York. May 20 |
Marc Staal SidelinedMarc Staal said there has been improvement over the past two days with regard to his blurred vision and altered depth perception. "That week after the game I didn't play [Game 4 against the Capitals], I had some ups and downs and I took a few days off to let things settle down," Staal said. "The last two days have been better so we'll go from there. It's worse to sit and watch than it is to deal with the eye." He didn't say if he would play in Game 4 Thursday, but it's unlikely that he does. May 23
Michael Del Zotto ActiveMichael Del Zotto appears fine after being struck in the ear in the first period of Game One against the Bruins Thursday. Del Zotto left the ice during the game for a few repairs after a shot that was deflected by Patrice Bergeron hit him on the ear. There's no question about his availability for Game Two Sunday. May 19
Ryan McDonagh ActiveRyan McDonagh will play a "ton" in Game 5 on Saturday, according to Rangers coach John Tortorella. Just in case there was ever any doubt. McDonagh ranks 12th in the NHL with an average of 25:37 minutes per game in the playoffs. May 25
John Moore ActiveJohn Moore is looking forward to playing his first playoff game at home with the Rangers Monday night. "I was getting chills in the regular season playing here at the Garden, I can't even imagine what it's going to be like in the playoffs," he said. "In Washington for my first playoff game of my career, that's one of the things that jumps out at you is how electric the building is and how everyone is into it. I'm excited to play in front of our fans and I'm sure it'll be a night I won't forget." Moore doesn't have a point after two games in the series, but only three members of the Rangers have hit the scoresheet. They will be hoping that some home cooking will help stir up some offense. May 6
Anton Stralman SidelinedAnton Stralman (undisclosed) didn't skate Thursday morning. He isn't likely to play in Game 4 and the Rangers will probably turn to Roman Hamrlik to take his place. Stralman doesn't have a point in 10 playoff contests, but he does have 16 hits and 21 blocks. His absence cuts into the depth of New York's back end, which means more ice time for Daniel Girardi and Ryan McDonagh. May 23
Roman Hamrlik ActiveRoman Hamrlik got through Thursday's Game 4 in reasonably good fashion. It was his first game action since April 1st as he has been a regular healthy scratch. Hamrlik, who was needed due to the injury to Anton Stralman, was paired with Steve Eminger. His stamina was certainly tested against the Bruins in a very long shift in the third period. "I was getting a headache," Hamrlik said. "Me and Eminger, we stayed there for a long time, but we battled through. We tried to get off the ice, but we didn’t have much chance. It was probably the longest shift in a playoff [game] I played." Despite this Herculean effort, Hamrlik has no playoff fantasy value. May 25
Steve Eminger ActiveSteve Eminger will play in Sunday's contest against the Buffalo Sabres. Matt Gilroy will take a seat tonight. However, Eminger will not have much fantasy impact during this 48-game shortened season. Mar 3
Michael Sauer I.L.Michael Sauer (concussion) is "not even in the conversation" for the Rangers, coach John Tortorella said. The defenseman suffered a concussion Dec. 5, 2011, in a collision with the Maple Leafs' Dion Phaneuf. Sauer has not been on the ice since. "I wish I could give you some kind of timetable on when or if he can come back, but I can’t," Sauer’s agent, Ben Hankinson, said. "Unfortunately it’s still day to day, week to week, month to month." Jan 18
Stu Bickel SidelinedStu Bickel has a wrist injury so he won't be part of the New York Rangers' taxi squad. He has been sent home to start rehabbing the ailment. Bickel dressed in 16 contests with the Rangers in the regular season. May 13
Dylan McIlrath ActiveDylan McIlrath had a follow-up procedure on his knee. McIlrath underwent knee surgery in July. The latest procedure went "very well" and he's "making great progress." The bad news is that he hasn't been given the green light to resume skating. Oct 19
| G | 1 | Henrik Lundqvist ActiveHenrik Lundqvist was sharp Thursday as he turned away 37 of 40 shots in a 4-3 overtime win over Boston. The game went back and forth a few times, especially in the third period, however King Henrik made the important saves he needed to when it counted. The Rangers are still in a tough situation as they have three more games to win in order to complete the series comeback. May 23 |
Martin Biron ActiveWe anticipate that Martin Biron will be in goal Saturday against Carolina. Henrik Lundqvist will likely sit out due to a slight hamstring pull. Check back with us closer to game time for confirmation of the Rangers' starting netminder for Saturday's contest. Apr 6
Cameron Talbot ActiveThe New York Rangers recalled Cameron Talbot from the Connecticut Whale on Monday night. The Whale's season ended, so the Rangers recalled six guys to provide depth in case of an injury to one of their players during the postseason. Talbot went 14-15-1 with a 2.61 goals-against average and .913 save percentage in the AHL this season. Though he only went 5-4 in the playoffs, he improved on his rates, with a 2.10 GAA and .939 SV%. May 14
Jason Missiaen ActiveJason Missiaen has signed as a free agent with the New York Rangers. He posted a 10-33-8 record with a 3.33 goals-against average and an .893 save percentage in 53 games with Baie-Comeau Drakkar in the QMJHL this past season. Missiaen was originally drafted in the fourth round, 116th overall, by the Montreal Canadiens in the 2008 draft. Mar 24
