Buffalo gave up 2.71 goals per 60 minutes when Ennis skated five-on-five and according to Stats.HockeyAnalysis.com (which tracks the percentage of goals scored by a player's team while he is on the ice), the Sabres' opponents scored 66.7 percent of the goals when Ennis was on trying to keep his team in front. He also struggled while lining up at center against some of the league's premier pivots in addition to winning just 41.9 percent of his faceoffs. Ennis was switched back to left wing in the final seven games of the year. Offensively, he did alright for himself with 31 points in 47 games. Playing on the wing may be what's better for him if he can't handle the defensive responsibilities of skating in the middle. May 13 |

He has compiled eight shots, five hits, seven blocks and an even plus-minus rating in six NHL appearances. Ruhwedel hasn't been a liability out on the ice despite being smaller than most big-league forwards, which has earned him some praise from interim coach Ron Rolston. "That's just the will of the player," said Rolston. "You see it all the time. It's basically how much fight you have in you, the will to win puck battles and get himself in position. We've been very pleased with that part of his game. You can see the skating, some of the things he can do with the puck and his stick skills. His competitive nature is very good." Miller and Vanek are the face of the Sabres, yet both appear likely to be traded this offseason as the Sabres try to reboot their franchise. The man in charge of that reboot, GM Darcy Regier, got a full vote of confidence from Pegula, but his concern about what will happen to Miller and Vanek likely means that vote of confidence comes with an asterisk. The problem for Regier is Buffalo has a very difficult time landing free agents without overpaying, but high-salaried deals for players like Ville Leino are part of the reason the Sabres are in this situation in the first place. "I've been growing a lot," said Enroth after backstopping Sweden to a gold medal at the IIHF World Championships. "I want to play more. My goal is to be a starter one year in the NHL, and right now Ryan is the starter here. It's kind of hard to take the job from him here, but we'll see what happens." During the tournament, he posted a 5-2-1 record with a 1.15 goals-against average and a .956 save percentage.
