C | 1 | Alexander Wennberg ActiveAlexander Wennberg had an assist in his return to action in Game 5. Wennberg played in his normal spot at center between Thomas Vanek and Boone Jenner while Nick Foligno, who took over for the three games that Wennberg missed, was returned to the third unit. "I've been off the ice for a little bit," he said. "It's part of the game, trying to get back from an injury. I tried to do my best. I don't know if it's my best game, but all you can do is go out and try to battle." Wennberg also had three blocked shots in the afternoon tilt. Apr 22 |
Nick Foligno ActiveThe Columbus Blue Jackets are naturally taking blowing their 2-0 series lead pretty hard. Columbus appeared to be set to win the first series of its franchise's history, but instead the Washington Capitals won four straight contests to dismiss the Blue Jackets. "This is a kick in the teeth," said captain Nick Foligno. "No one feels good in here. We had a 2-0 (series) lead and didn’t win. That doesn’t happen." This was the Blue Jackets' fourth playoff series and the second in as many years. There's a lot of promise on this team and although they came up short this time around, they should be competitive again in 2018-19. Apr 24
Brandon Dubinsky ActiveBrandon Dubinsky scored a shorthanded goal in a 4-2 loss to the Nashville Predators. Dubinsky out hustled P.K. Subban for the puck and beat Juuse Saros for sixth goal of the year, and first shorthanded. It's the first point he has recorded in 24 games and he will finish the regular season with 16 points in 62 contests. Dubinsky has another three years on his contract at a $5.85 million cap hit. Apr 7
Mark Letestu ActiveMark Letestu found the back of the net in his return to the Blue Jackets. Letestu had played in 233 games with Columbus prior to Monday's action, but he left the team in 2015. On Sunday, the Blue Jackets reacquired him from Edmonton as part of a three-team deal. Letestu logged 13:13 minutes in the contest. Feb 27
Lukas Sedlak SidelinedLukas Sedlak (head) was struck by a Seth Jones' slap shot that led to his helmet being cracked during Thursday's game. Sedlak had been knocked to the ice by a crosscheck prior to being hit by the puck. The puck itself hit him in the back of the net, but the helmet cracking cut him behind his left ear. He wouldn't say if he has a concussion or not, but he did admit to feeling woozy. As previously reported, he's out indefinitely. Mar 23
Alex Broadhurst ActiveAlex Broadhurst will play tonight against the Nashville Predators. It will be Broadhurst's second career NHL game after failing to register a point in his NHL debut in early March. The Blue Jackets are resting their stars in their last regular-season contest. Apr 7
LW | 1 | Artemi Panarin ActiveThe Columbus Blue Jackets can re-sign Artemi Panarin as early as July 1st. Panarin still has a season left on his contract, but all things being equal, the Blue Jackets would probably love to lock him up sooner rather than later. Panarin excelled in his first season with Columbus by scoring 27 goals and 82 points in 81 games and he performed similarly in his previous two seasons with Chicago. He's expected to command top dollar, but it does seem that he would be interested in working something out with the Blue Jackets. "I’m very happy that I’m here," he said through a translator. "Very good team. Nice people. The organization is amazing." Apr 24 |
Pierre-Luc Dubois ActivePierre-Luc Dubois found the back of the net in Monday's 6-3 Game 6 loss to the Washington Capitals. Dubois was sitting in the high slot area when he received a pass from Matt Calvert and blasted a one-timer in behind Braden Holtby to get the Blue Jackets to within one goal 2:25 into the final period. Unfortunately for Columbus, the Capitals responded with a goal 90 seconds later and another one 90 seconds after that to pull away. Dubois will finish his first career post-season with two goals and four points in six games. Apr 23
Boone Jenner ActiveBoone Jenner scored a goal in Thursday's 4-1 loss to the Washington Capitals. Jenner finally got the Jackets on the board at the 6:22 mark of the third period to cut their deficit to 3-1 at the time. He finished the game with a minus-1 rating and four shots on goal and four hits in 17:44 of ice time. Jenner now has one goal and one assist in four games this postseason. Josh Anderson registered the only assist on Jenner's tally. After winning the first two games of the series in Washington, the Jackets lost back-to-back games at home. Game 5 will be played in Washington on Saturday afternoon. Apr 19
Matt Calvert ActiveMatt Calvert registered an assist in the Blue Jackets' 6-3 loss to Washington in Game 6 Monday night. Although the Blue Jackets couldn't advance past the first round, Calvert did look good in the series. He had three goals and four points in six playoff games. That's after finishing the regular season with nine goals and 24 points in 69 contests. Apr 24
Markus Hannikainen ActiveMarkus Hannikainen will be a healthy scratch in Tuesday's game against the Detroit Red Wings. Hannikainen has suited up in each of Columbus' last three games, but he'll sit tonight. The 25-year-old has three goals and five assists in 32 games this season. Scott Harrington, Taylor Chorney, Dean Kukan and Eric Robinson will also watch the game from the press box. Lukas Sedlak, Markus Nutivaara, Nick Foligno and Josh Anderson will all miss the game due to injury. Apr 3
RW | 1 | Cam Atkinson ActiveThe Columbus Blue Jackets were eliminated from the playoffs after Monday's 6-3 Game 6 loss to the Washington Capitals. It's a tough pill to swallow for the Blue Jackets who headed back to Columbus after the opening two games of the series with a 2-0 lead only to lose four straight to the Capitals. Tonight was a particularly rough night for forward Cam Atkinson as he finished with no points, a minus-4 rating and seven shots on goal. The Blue Jackets will see their career playoff series record drop to 0-4. Apr 23 |
Josh Anderson ActiveJosh Anderson will not face any additional discipline from the NHL for his hit from behind to Capitals' defenseman Michal Kempny. Anderson received a five-minute boarding penalty and a game misconduct for the hit that did not seem to be of the kind that would warrant a game misconduct. Anderson will be able to suit up for Game 2 Saturday night. Apr 14
Thomas Vanek ActiveThomas Vanek scored a goal and picked up an assist in a 4-3 overtime win in Game 1 over the Washington Capitals. Vanek was parked in front of the net when he redirected Pierre-Luc Dubois' pass 1:31 into the final period to tie up the game. The Capitals were then able to pull ahead again before Seth Jones forced overtime with under five minutes left in regulation. Vanek was acquired at the trade deadline for Jussi Jokinen and Tyler Motte and has proven to be a steal for the Blue Jackets. Apr 12
Oliver Bjorkstrand ActiveOliver Bjorkstrand tallied his first NHL playoff goal Saturday in a 4-3 OT loss to Washington. Bjorkstrand tied the game at 3-3 early in the third period. He has two points in five games versus the Capitals this postseason. Matt Calvert had Columbus' other two goals in the contest. Washington leads the series 3-2 with Game 6 set for Monday. Apr 21
Sonny Milano ActiveSonny Milano will suit up for Game 2 on Sunday against the Washington Capitals. He'll be taking Alexander Wennberg's spot who is day-to-day due to an upper-body injury. Tomorrow's game will be Milano's second career post-season game after suiting up in a game last season against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Brandon Dubinsky will move to center in Wennberg's usual spot. Apr 14
D | 1 | Zach Werenski ActiveZach Werenski had a goal and two assists in Columbus' 5-4 overtime win Sunday. The talented rearguard set up Matt Calvert for the winner as the Blue Jackets lead the best-of-seven series 2-0 with the series headed back to the Ohio capital. Werenski suffered through a major slump this season as he went 25 games without finding the back of the net but he has come out of it and has been a stud in the post-season. He should be drafted as a second defenseman next season in most pools. Apr 16 |
Seth Jones ActiveSeth Jones averaged 30:37 in Columbus' first-round series against the Washington Capitals. No player has averaged a higher amount of ice time in the first round in 2018. Of course, the fact that four of the Blue Jackets' six games went to overtime helped inflate Jones' ice time. He had one goal, four assists and a minus-3 rating during the series. Unfortunately for Jones and his team, they couldn't top the Capitals, so they'll be heading home early. He had a remarkable season overall. Apr 24
Jack Johnson ActiveIt's likely that Jack Johnson's tenure with the Columbus Blue Jackets has ended with a whimper. Columbus, which was eliminated from the playoffs on Monday, didn't use Johnson at all in the first round series. He did appear in 77 regular season games, but his role had declined somewhat and it had appeared for a while that he was falling out of favor. He even requested a trade earlier in the season in the hopes that he would end up with a team that would use him more, but that didn't happen. Now he'll likely test the free agent market instead as we don't expect Columbus to offer him a significant contract after declining to even use him in the postseason. Apr 24
David Savard ActiveDavid Savard (illness) will be good to go Tuesday night. Savard was back on the ice for the team's optional morning skate after he was absent from Monday's session because he was feeling under the weather. He has posted 15 points in 75 games this season. Mar 27
Ryan Murray ActiveRyan Murray will be a healthy scratch tonight against the Nashville Predators. Murray will be joining Zach Werenski, Seth Jones, Artemi Panarin, Alex Wennberg and Cam Atkinson as healthy scratches. Columbus has decided they are better off resting their top players heading into the post-season. Apr 7
Ian Cole ActiveIan Cole is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. Now that Columbus has been eliminated from the playoffs, Cole's completed his three-year, $6.3 million contract. Cole spent most of the 2017-18 campaign with Pittsburgh, but he was dealt to Ottawa in the Derick Brassard trade and didn't even play a single game with the Senators before he was flipped to Columbus. Although he's typically not a big offensive force, he made some noteworthy contributions with the Blue Jackets as he had seven points in 20 regular season games and three points in six playoff contests. It will be interesting to see if the Blue Jackets attempt to retain his services after that. Apr 24
Taylor Chorney ActiveTaylor Chorney will draw into the lineup tonight against the Nashville Predators. It'll be his first action since February 15th. The Blue Jackets are resting Zach Werenski, Seth Jones and Ryan Murray at the back and will give some players an opportunity to play in the regular season finale. Apr 7
Scott Harrington ActiveScott Harrington will be a healthy scratch in Thursday's game against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Harrington has two goals and two assists in 31 games this season. He's been a healthy scratch in every game since Feb. 26. Markus Hannikainen, Taylor Chorney, Dean Kukan, Eric Robinson and Alex Broadhurst will also watch the game from the press box. Apr 5
Dean Kukan ActiveDean Kukan will suit up tonight against the Nashville Predators. The Blue Jackets are making some changes to rest up their stud players and are giving some lesser players an opportunity to impress in the regular season finale. Apr 7
Markus Nutivaara ActiveMarkus Nutivaara (upper body) will be good to go for Game 1 against Washington. Nutivaara could have played Saturday, but he was held out because the Blue Jackets had already secured a playoff spot. Apr 9
G | 1 | Sergei Bobrovsky ActiveSergei Bobrovsky allowed five goals on 27 shots in Monday's 6-3 Game 6 loss to the Washington Capitals. Bobrovsky has dominated during the regular-season over the last two years but his game continues to fall apart when it counts the most, as he has now allowed three or more goals in 12 straight playoff contests. The Blue Jackets will now finish another post-season having never won a round in the post-season. The Russian netminder will see his career playoff record drop to 5-14 with a 3.49 goals-against-average and a .891 save percentage. Apr 23 |
Joonas Korpisalo ActiveJoonas Korpisalo allowed three goals on 26 shots in a 4-2 loss to the Nashville Predators. With the Blue Jackets resting all of their star players, Korpisalo really had no chance to come away from Saturday's game with the victory against a fully loaded Predators team. The 23-year-old goaltender will finish the regular-season with a 8-8-1 record, a 3.32 goals-against-average and a .897 save percentage. Apr 7
Jeff Zatkoff ActiveColunbus has summoned Jeff Zatkoff from the minors. Zatkoff will be the team's third goaltender behind Sergei Bobrovsky and Joonas Korpisalo. He has posted a 4-9-2 record with a 3.22 goals-against average, an .885 save percentage and two shutouts in 17 contests with Cleveland of the AHL this year. Apr 15
