Andrei Vasilevskiy has stopped 66 of the 67 shots he has faced in two appearances at the 2014 World Hockey Championship.
He has mostly served as Sergei Bobrovsky's backup at the tournament, but he has received plenty of praise for his play. "Tretiak also broke into the national championship and the national team when he was very young," former Soviet Hockey League goaltender Alexander Pashkov told the IIHF's website. "Like him, Vasilevskiy has great natural ability and last season he was the strongest goalie in the KHL. You could also see this in the last two World Junior Championships. I'm sure he can become a world class player." Comparing him to Vladislav Tretiak is certainly high praise, but he may have to wait a few seasons before he can make his mark in the NHL.
