Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill thinks the expectations for Anthony Mantha were too high last season.
Mantha was coming off of a 120-point campaign in the QMJHL and went on to record 15 goals and 33 points in 62 AHL contests in 2014-15. "He got hurt two times during the season, and that made it difficult on him — especially at the beginning of the year, when you are establishing good habits," Blashill said in Mantha's defense. "And then right before the playoffs, in June." Blashill thinks that Mantha has the potential to be a great player, but he needs time to develop good habits in terms of how hard he's working. Mantha was so dominant at the junior level that he could get away with certain things, so now he has to adjust to a higher level that will ultimately hold him to a different standard. Mantha isn't expected to make Detroit out of training camp. Jul 24 - 8:53 AM
