| C | 1 | David Krejci ActiveDavid Krejci didn't get a point for the first time in Boston's opening-round series against Toronto in Sunday's 2-1 loss. He had recorded at least a point in the previous five games of the series, but didn't even get a shot on goal in Game 6. His best chance came on a two-on-one rush, where he shot the puck wide. The Bruins have relied on Krejci and his linemates in their quarterfinal series and if they can't get something going in Game 7 Monday night then the Leafs may find themselves in a good position to advance into the second round. May 13 |
Patrice Bergeron ActiveJaromir Jagr compared Boston center Patrice Bergeron to his old Hall of Fame teammate Ron Francis. "I think Ronnie Francis was the same way," Jagr said of Bergeron. "He wasn't very flashy. He scored a lot of goals but not the highlights goals. And he did everything perfect, especially defensively. The GMs and the coaches, they know. And it doesn't mean the media doesn't talk about him much. People who are close to hockey and understand hockey, they know how special he is. So it's all right." That's high praise from a teammate after spending just two months together. Bergeron was announced as a finalist for the Selke Trophy on Wednesday and he won the award last year. May 15
Chris Kelly ActiveChris Kelly and Daniel Paille had a goal and an assist apiece but their Boston Bruins lost to the Buffalo Sabres 3-2 via a shootout. Neither player has the kind of numbers that indicate that they'll be fantasy relevant on most nights, but Kelly at least showed why he was missed to some degree when he was on the shelf about a week or so ago. | 4 | Gregory Campbell ActiveThe Bruins' reunited fourth line of Daniel Paille, Gregory Campbell and Shawn Thornton has carried over its solid late-season play into the playoffs. The trio wasn't able to be kept together for the entire season because of injuries and other players' struggles, but it's back now and played a big role in the Game 1 win, accounting for 10 of the team's 30 hits and two assists. "Yeah, I think we were pretty good," said Campbell. "At times I guess that’s our job a lot of the time, to create energy, to change momentum, and just be hard to play against. It’s important to be hard on the puck and win battles and do little things well in the playoffs, and that’s kind of the M.O. of our line." May 3
Carl Soderberg ActiveCarl Soderberg recorded his first NHL point on Sunday. It was just his second NHL game. He joined the Boston Bruins after scoring 31 goals and 60 points in 54 Swedish Elite League games. Apr 22
Marc Savard I.L.Marc Savard, who is still suffering from concussion-like symptoms, will be in Boston this week and the Bruins will declare him unfit to play. Savard is under contract through 2016-17 at an annual average salary of just a little over $4 million. The Bruins may not have to place him on long-term injured reserve to start the season though. "We've got a lot of flexibility this year," said GM Peter Chiarelli. "Do I suspect we'll use Savard's LTI? It depends. [Owner Jeremy] Jacobs has allowed us to pursue those types of players. He wants to win. I think if we presented a compelling case, I think he'd let us use it." Jan 14
| LW | 1 | Milan Lucic ActiveMilan Lucic scored in Monday's Game 7 win for the Bruins, and now he's ready to continue the New York-Boston rivalry. Lucic's goal came over nine minutes after Horton's in the third period, with the Bruins' playoff lives still on life support. The power forward also had a helper. "It looks like it's going to be the Rangers [in the second round],'' Lucic said. "Boston-New York, Red Sox-Yankees, Giants-Patriots, Knicks-Celtics this year, and now we have this. So two cities that there's a lot hatred between in sports, and from a fan's perspective and a player's perspective, it's something to look forward to." May 14 |
Brad Marchand ActiveBrad Marchand scored in overtime to give the Boston Bruins the 3-2 victory in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semi-finals over the New York Rangers. It was Marchand's first goal of the playoffs after he was unable to find the back of the net in the seven game series against Toronto in the opening round. He also picked up his fourth assist in the playoffs as he helped set up the tying goal by Torey Krug early in the third period on the power play. Zdeno Chara opened the scoring for the Bruins and also added an assist. Marchand was apparently injured during the morning skate Thursday but managed to play. Boston fans are sure happy that he was able to. May 16
Daniel Paille ActiveDaniel Paille got clipped on his chin accidentally by the heel of Leo Komarov's skate blade in Game 6 on Sunday night. The Boston winger stayed in the game though and received treatment on the bench. Paille has a goal, an assist and 13 hits in six games in the quarterfinal against Toronto. May 13
Kaspars Daugavins ActiveKaspars Daugavins will be in the Boston lineup for Game 1 while Rich Peverley is a healthy scratch. Daugavins was skating on the third line in practice this morning alongside Chris Kelly, Jaromir Jagr and Rich Peverley. May 1
Jay Pandolfo ActiveJay Pandolfo replaced Chris Bourque on the third line Thursday night. Pandolfo, who had been primarily a fourth-liner, was a minus-one in 11:42 of ice time. It's very likely this is a short-term thing as the Bruins are shopping for a No. 3 left wing. Mar 8
| RW | 1 | Tyler Seguin ActiveTyler Seguin is likely to begin the second round on Boston's third line. He was bumped down the rotation in favor of veteran winger Jaromir Jagr in Game 7 against Toronto. Seguin remained with Chris Kelly and Rich Peverley during Boston's practice Wednesday. He had one assist in the seventh game of the series for his first point. May 15 |
Jaromir Jagr ActiveJaromir Jagr remained on Boston's second line during Wednesday's practice. He played alongside Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand in Game 7 versus the Maple Leafs and it looks like he'll start the second round in that slot as well. Jagr hasn't scored yet in the postseason for Boston, but he has contributed four assists and 25 shots. May 15
Nathan Horton ActiveNathan Horton's third-period goal triggered the Bruins' improbable rally over the Leafs. Down 4-1 with a little more than 14 minutes left, the Bruins had little energy and they were hearing it from the crowd. But Horton's goal provided a jolt. "It was tough there on the bench, getting booed, and looking at the time clock and watching the seconds count down," said Brad Marchand. ... "After [Horton] got that first one for us that started the climb back, we see the emotion on the bench and guys started to believe. That's what we needed." May 14
Rich Peverley ActiveRich Peverley logged 13:42 of ice time in his return to Boston's lineup Saturday night in Game 2. The Bruins are still waiting to get some offense out of their third line, which has been sore spot for the club all year. The thought was that Jaromir Jagr would help add some scoring punch alongside Peverley and Chris Kelly, but that is yet to happen. Jagr, Peverley, Kelly and Kaspars Daugavins, who played instead of Peverley in Game 1 against Toronto, don't have a point in Boston's first-round series. May 6
Shawn Thornton ActiveThe Boston Bruins have not lost on the Toronto Maple Leafs’ home ice in the playoffs since 1959. ‘‘It doesn’t give you a sense of confidence,’’ Bruins forward Shawn Thornton said, ‘‘but you’re not as afraid to go into that building.’’ The Bruins lead their opening-round playoff series against the Leafs 3-2 and would wrap up the best-of-seven set with a win in Toronto tonight. May 12
| D | 1 | Zdeno Chara ActiveZdeno Chara has been a handful at both ends of the ice during Boston's 2013 playoffs. He continued his remarkable two-way play in the Bruins' 3-2 overtime win over the New York Rangers in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals on Thursday. Chara racked up a game-high 38:02 of ice time, while dishing out nine shots, six hits and two points. The towering defender got his second goal of the postseason and he leads all defensemen in scoring with 10 points in eight games. The Bruins will continue to lean heavily on him even when their young blueliners, who are currently in the lineup, are replaced by the team's injured veterans. May 17 |
Dennis Seidenberg SidelinedDennis Seidenberg (lower body) participated in an off-ice workout on Friday. The Boston Bruins didn't hold a team practice on Friday. Seidenberg missed Game 1 of the second round due to the ailment, but he might return on Sunday. May 17
Dougie Hamilton ActiveDougie Hamilton got his first career playoff point in Thursday's 3-2 overtime win against the Rangers. He earned an assist on Torey Krug's power-play goal in the third period to tie the game at 2-2. Hamilton played his best game of the postseason after skating in three contests versus Toronto in the opening round. He also had five shots during his 20:45 of ice time. Hamilton appears to be growing much more comfortable out there. May 17
Andrew Ference SidelinedAndrew Ference (lower body) might be available for Game 2 on Sunday. Bruins coach Claude Julien said it was too early to say for sure, but he wouldn't rule out the possibility. Ference has missed the Bruins' last three games due to the ailment. May 17
Johnny Boychuk ActiveJohnny Boychuk had a tough game in Thursday's semifinals series opener against the New York Rangers. He was checked from behind by Taylor Pyatt in the second period and needed to go the dressing room for a bit after going headfirst into the glass. Boychuk also sent himself into the boards awkwardly while looking to deliver a big hit and appeared to be in pain on the bench, but he stayed in the game after flexing out his shoulder. He ended up with 26:55 of ice time and a minus-2 rating in Game 1's 3-2 victory to go with his six hits, four blocks and five shots. May 17
Adam McQuaid ActiveAdam McQuaid has been named a finalist for the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy. The award goes to the "player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey." He underwent two surgeries in September because of Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, which caused blood clots to form in his neck and shoulder. The ailment was expected to sidelined him for the season, but he returned for the Bruins' regular-season opener once the lockout was settled. May 14
Matt Bartkowski ActiveMatt Bartkowski scored his first NHL goal in the Bruins' Game 7 win. It was the game's first goal, coming at 5:39. Bartkowski, in only his 23rd game, found the net and also had three shots on goal. Bruins coach Claude Julien was happy how his young defensemen, Bartkowski and Dougie Hamilton, played. "You have to find a way to give credit to those two young guys on the back end —Hamilton and obviously Bartkowski," Julien said. "Bartkowski was moving the puck and carrying it so well tonight, and he scored a big goal for us. I saw Dougie Hamilton get more and more comfortable as the game went on as far as carrying the puck and making plays. You talk about people coming in, well we were minus three real good veterans in our back end, so that’s half your core, and those guys come in and do a heck of a job. May 14
Torey Krug ActiveTorey Krug found the back of the net in his NHL playoff debut Thursday night. He also posted three hits and three shots in the Bruins' 3-2 overtime win over the Rangers. Krug was thrust into action due to injuries and he played well during his 16:41 of ice time. He got to play because Boston didn't have veterans Dennis Seidenberg, Andrew Ference and Wade Redden available. May 17
Wade Redden SidelinedWade Redden (undisclosed) hasn't been ruled out for Game 2 on Sunday. "There is a possibility. That much I can say," Bruins coach Claude Julien said of Redden's status as well as the availability of defensemen Dennis Seidenberg and Andrew Ference. Redden missed the Bruins' morning skate on Thursday and the team didn't practice on Friday. May 17
| G | 1 | Tuukka Rask ActiveTuukka Rask turned aside 33 shots as the Boston Bruins defeated the New York Rangers 3-2 in overtime Thursday. The Bruins are up 1-0 in the best-of-seven series. Rask is now 5-3 in the playoffs with a 2.36 GAA and a .926 save percentage in the 2013 playoffs. He gave up a goal to Ryan McDonagh with two seconds left in the second and then gave up a goal 14 seconds into the third stanza as Derek Stepan beat him with a snap shot but he was perfect after that to lead the Bruins to the victory. May 17 |
Anton Khudobin ActiveAnton Khudobin was pulled in Tuesday's loss to Philadelphia after he allowed two goals on 16 shots. Tuukka Rask was beaten three times on 14 shots in relief after starting back-to-back games for the Bruins over the weekend. The Bruins have been comfortable starting Khudobin this season and this effort probably won't change that, as he has been a solid backup to Rask. Apr 23
