Suddenly former New York Rangers backup goalie Martin Biron announced his retirement from the NHL on Twitter Sunday.
He decided to "move on to a new chapter" of his life. One can debate whether he fulfilled his promise - the Buffalo Sabres drafted him 16th overall in 1995 - but he certainly had a lengthy NHL career. In his travels with Buffalo (about a decade), Philadelphia and the Rangers (about three seasons each) and the Islanders (29 games in 2009-10), the 36-year-old logged 508 regular season contests and played in 23 postseason games, most recently with Philly in 2008-09.
