James Morrison scored twice for West Bromwich Albion but the Baggies fell short in their comeback attempt in a 2-3 loss to Chelsea.
It was nearly a hat trick on the day for Morrison, who stepped up early when the match was still goalless for a penalty chance, but he had his attempt denied by Thibault Courtois. Chelsea would then score twice to take a commanding advantage by the half-hour mark, but the Baggies were not done. Morrison was set up beautifully by Salomon Rondon, who sent a bicycle-style cross that the Scottish international slotted home. Then, in the second half, a Callum McManaman cross was sent toward Morrison in the area, and with his back to goal, flicked on a blind header perfectly into the top corner of goal. While they came up short in their bid to get a result, there is still some positive takeaways for West Brom. Rondon looks to be an aerial menace and general threat up top, and Morrison is clearly in form right now. This may help ease the burden of the possible loss of Saido Berahino, who was left out of today's squad in a potential sign of his departure. Aug 23 - 10:52 AM
