David Moyes admitted his squad is down the "bare bones" following the 1-2 home defeat to Middlesbrough.
Having played as a makeshift midfielder on the opening weekend at the Etihad, John O’Shea was back in a more familiar role on Sunday as injuries threaten to derail the Black Cats season before September. Moyes begrudgingly granted Younes Kaboul a move to Watford this week, the player citing personal problems, and Lamine Kone was told to stay away yesterday after claiming to have a back injury following his refusal to sign a new deal. Papiss Djilobodji came in for his debut, partnering O’Shea, but the Republic of Ireland international couldn’t see out the first half after he "popped his groin". With a shortage of central defenders, Jack Rodwell slotted into the back four but Moyes will be hoping for movement on the transfer front this week to help provide some much-needed reinforcements.
