Iceland's magical tournament came to an end against France as they coughed up four goals in the first half, but they played hard for 90 minutes in a match that ended, 5-2.
By the time this match kicked off, five teams were left in this competition and Iceland were unbeaten. A truly inspiring story simply could not contend with the host nation in tonight's match though. Gylfi Sigurdsson delivered the first shot on target in the match, but his effort in the third minute didn't have enough on it to challenge Hugo Lloris. Iceland then went on to concede four goals to France before the halftime whistle. The match was certainly decided, but all respect is deserved to Iceland, who outscored France two goals to one in the second half, giving 100% effort from start to finish. A cross by Sigurdsson assisted the first of those two goals. Not many nations are remembered for finishing a tournament with a loss in the quarterfinals but Iceland's showing in Euro 2016 will not be forgotten any time soon. Jul 3 - 5:04 PM
