Manchester United manager David Moyes has been sacked, only 10 months after succeeding Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford.
The news had already been leaked to the UK newspapers and had spread across the internet on Monday, so this morning's official announcement is no surprise. As many had predicted, following Sir Alex proved too much for Moyes. The ex-Everton boss never looked at ease at Old Trafford and had a torrid time in the transfer market, in the media and on the pitch, guiding the team to seventh in the table with four games remaining, guaranteed to record Manchester United's lowest ever points tally in the Premier League. The Club released a short statement "to place on record its thanks for the hard work, honesty and integrity he brought to the role". Player-coach Ryan Giggs is expected to take charge of United's next game at home against Norwich on Saturday and possibly for the rest of the season, before a new manager is announced in the summer.
