Oklahoma senior RB Roy Finch has shown an increased level of maturity this spring, according to coaches.
"(Roy is) doing what we're asking him to do in the meeting room, on the practice field, or in the classroom, in the weight room," offensive coordinator Josh Heupel said. "He's maturing as a person." Head coach Bob Stoops added, "(Finch) really has played well every day, so it's been exciting and good to see Roy doing what he's doing." We are fans of Finch's talent, and he was been criminally underused in 2012, but the off-field immaturity likely played a large role.

Oklahoma head coach Bob Stoops declared that junior RB Roy Finch is not in the doghouse despite only seeing six offensive touches this season.
Finch carried the load last season after Dominique Whaley went down with an injury and averaged 5.5 yards per carry and 8.7 yards per reception. Admittedly, Finch is a personal favorite due to his jitterbug style combined with a willingness to stay between the tackles, but there is no real explanation for not giving the junior more touches in an offense that is not running on all cylinders.

Oklahoma offensive coordinator Josh Heupel hinted that Oklahoma RB Roy Finch's lack of touches is due to poor preparation by the junior.
"As Roy continues to handle himself in a mature way and practice better, he's going to continue to earn more touches," Heupel stated. Finch did not touch the ball in the team's opener, but rushed five times for 50 yards and a touchdown, along with three kick returns for 87 yards. A personal favorite, Finch is facing a long jam at the running back position and has practiced in the slot as a receiver. He remains one of the shiftier backs in college football, but Finch needs more touches.

Oklahoma junior RB Roy Finch has been practicing as a slot WR in some sets during the Sooners first few days of practice.
The team is loaded with running back talent and a bit thin at receiver due to suspensions, so the experiment makes sense. Oklahoma previously used DeMarco Murray in a similar role and lost an exceptional slot threat last season in Ryan Broyles, but Finch's smaller frame could make some question the decision. The junior is exceptionally quick and bursts out of his cuts and has flashed receiving ability from the backfield in passing situations.
