Overnight co-leader Dustin Johnson settled for an even-par 33-37=70 in the final round of the 115th U.S. Open to conclude at 4-under 276, joint runner-up with Louis Oosthuizen and one shot back of the winner Jordan Spieth.
Johnson circled his first birdie at No. 4 and missed a fairway at the par-4 sixth. Significant in that he had hit 18 consecutive fairways up to that point. The missed fairway did not prove costly as he delicately rolled in a 25-footer for par. He circled his second birdie at the par-5 eighth to turn in 2-under and 6-under overall. Things began to unravel, however, when he missed consecutive six-foot par putts on Nos. 10 and 11. After failing to take advantage of the drivable, par-4 12th, DJ squared yet another bogey at 13, three-putting from 38 feet. Johnson totaled 33 putts on the day, and his putting let him down again at 16, missing birdie from nine feet. He responded with a six-foot par breaker on 17, setting the stage for the par-5 last. Needing birdie to tie, he struck two blows to within 12'4" for eagle and promptly three-putted for par. The consolation is that this matches his career-best in a major (2011 Open Championship).
