Eric Meierdierks has been added to the published field of this week's Wells Fargo Championship.
The rookie was the third alternate when the field was released on Friday afternoon, but he earned a spot in the field on a sponsor exemption. He's finished no better than T50 among two paydays in nine starts this season. He'll arrive for his debut at Quail Hollow having missed his last four cuts by an aggregate 13 strokes.

Eric Meierdierks has gained entry into this week's Shell Houston Open.
The PGA TOUR's media department reported this.
Meierdierks was the sixth alternate when the field was released on Friday afternoon. He gained entry when Fredrik Jacobson withdrew. Meierdierks has two paydays in six starts this season, the better of which was a T50 in Puerto Rico.

Meierdierks was the fourth alternate when the field was released on Friday afternoon. He earned his first start at Copperhead when Steve Marino withdrew. The 27-year-old rookie has cashed in two of his five starts this season but hasn't finished better than T50 in Puerto Rico.

The book on Eric Meierdierks is being written as he moves from Hawaii to the California desert for the Humana Challenge.
Simply put, the start to his rookie year was bad. Of those that completed 36 holes, his 12-over-par 152 was the worst by two strokes. Forced to dig deep for a bright spot, he did managed to shave two strokes off of his opening 77 in the second round and ended his week with birdies on two of his final three holes. Still, 13 bogeys and a double bogey in a week where the winner broke the 20-under mark is not a good sign.
