First-round leader and World No. 89 Jim Herman authored a 3-under-par 35-33=68 in the final round of the Valspar Championship to cap off his third appearance on 12-under 272, good for a two-way T3, two back of champion Adam Hadwin, and just a second podium in 132 career events.
The 39-year-old was the 18-hole leader with a career-tying best 62, and chased with 71-71 to begin in solo 3rd, five adrift of Hadwin. Playing out of the penultimate twosome, he squared a lone bogey-5 at three (failed sand save), but then played his final 15 holes in blemish-free 4-under, circling Nos. 4, 5, 11 and 14. Three of Herman's par breakers were conventional, each from inside of five feet, adding a 29-footer from the fringe for birdie-2 at four. He also dropped three par-savers from between seven and 12 feet, highlighted by an 11'4" save at the par-3 17th. This was the Cincinnati product's 11th start of the season, fourth top 25 and second top 10 (10th, Sony Open). It was his first time in the top 10 thru 54 holes in 26 starts, dating back to his win at the 2016 Shell Houston Open, where he was a 54-hole co-leader. Mar 12 - 7:23 PM
