On a windy day at TPC San Antonio, World No. 79 Jim Herman navigated a 1-under-par 36-35=71 in the third round of the Valero Texas Open for a 54-hole total of 4-under 212, up 15 places to T11 with play still in progress.
The 39-year-old has the one victory on the PGA TOUR in 135 career events, claiming the 2016 Shell Houston Open across the state. This is his fifth VTO with a best of T59 on debut in 2011. The Cincinnati, Ohio, native missed the cut at the SHO in his defense and arrived off a MC last week at the Heritage. After opening in 69-72, he improved to 8-for-15 on the season and has two prior top 10s, highlighted by a T3 four starts ago at the Valspar. The Florida resident landed 10 (of 14) fairways and hit 13 greens in regulation, gaining 3.984 strokes tee-to-green but losing 0.456 strokes on-the-green. He squared three bogeys, slightly outpaced by four birdies at holes 6, 8, 14 and 17, posting 1.692 putts per GIR and taking 29 total putts. Apr 22 - 5:12 PM
