Lee Westwood could only muster an even-par 35-37=72 in the final round of THE PLAYERS, but it was good enough to lock up his fourth top 10 in his last four starts of 2013.
Westwood entered the weekend with a legitimate shot to pick up the victory, but a terrible opening nine in Saturday's third round left him fighting for a top 10. He spent most of the day in good shape, as he was 2-under through 13 holes with three birdies and a bogey, but late bogeys on 14 and 17 put the streak in serious jeopardy. A par at 18 is just good enough to extend the streak at 7-under 281, but it will not be tested at TPC Four Seasons Resort later this week since he isn't in the field for the HP Byron Nelson Championship.

Lee Westwood salvaged his third round of THE PLAYERS with a 2-over-par 39-35=74, dropping into a tie for 10th ahead of the final round at 7-under 209.
Westwood overcame two early double bogeys and a slight injury to his hand on a whiffed approach on the first hole to play his inward nine at TPC Sawgrass under par. He emerged early Sunday morning to birdie the par-5 16th, then stuffing his approach on the par-3 17th to 2'8" for a kick-in birdie. He gave one back at 18, but his health seems to be intact for a solid final-round push.

The horn sounded for the second time during the third round of THE PLAYERS at 7:48 p.m. ET, this time due to darkness.
Among those stranded on the course is Lee Westwood. He went through the first 36 holes without a blemish, but made a double-bogey six on the opening hole after swinging and missing on his second shot from a native area. On the miss, he appeared to hurt his hand and confirmed to NBC on-course reporters that he was in some pain. Perhaps the break in the action to rest his hand is what he needs, as he is 3-over-par through 15 holes in his round. Everyone is chasing David Lingmerth. The rookie is 12-under through 17 holes and two clear of Tiger Woods, Sergio Garcia and Henrik Stenson. It was announced at the end of the live NBC telecast that the third round will resume at 7 a.m.

Lee Westwood is bogey-free, 9-under-par 69-66=135 and shares the 36-hole clubhouse at THE PLAYERS.
When he's on, he
should
dismantle TPC Sawgrass. The world-class ball-striker has split 22 (of 28) fairways and hit 27 greens in regulation en route to an eagle and seven birdies. Today's set of par breakers began with an eagle hole-out from the rough 33 yards away at the par-5 11th hole. He tacked on four birdies thereafter, the longest dropping in from 14'2" at 12. Westwood helped keep his scorecard spotless with a par save from 10'6" at the par-4 14th.
