Playing out of the final threesome and making his season debut, overnight co-leader and World No. 6 Bryson DeChambeau hung up a 5-under-par 33-33=66 on Sunday at TPC Summerlin to claim the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open with a 72-hole aggregate of 21-under 263, good for a one-shot victory over runner-up and defending champ Patrick Cantlay, who shot 65 out of the penultimate threesome, and his fifth PGA TOUR title in 73 events (68 pro).
The 25-year-old, a pre-tourney 14/1 outright, bags his third win in his last five starts and improves to 3-for-3 when leading/co-leading at the three-quarter pole. This was the California native's third Shriners and second top 10, supplanting a T7 last year, where he opened and closed with 67s. After kicking off in 66-66-65, he co-led with Peter Uihlein, who was the 18- and 36-hole leader, and hit 10 (of 14) fairways and 15 greens in regulation, gaining 3.767 strokes tee-to-green. The SMU product squared a lone bogey-4 at hole 8, outflanked by four birdies at 1, 4, 9 (from 17'1") and 10, adding eagle-3 at 16 from off the green 57'7" away using the flat stick. He posted 1.600 putts per GIR and -0.916 SG: Putting with 28 total putts. For the week, the Dallas resident, who was the top-ranked OWGRer in the field, tallied one eagle and 22 birdies against just three bogeys and was No. 1 in SG: Tee-to-Green (13.550). Nov 4 - 6:47 PM
