Michael Hoey was disqualified from the PGA Championship following his second round.
Hoey seemed to have turned in one of the best rounds of the day with a 2-under-par 34-36=70, but he incurred a two-stroke penalty on the ninth hole and didn't count it in his score. Apparently, after identifying his ball from an embedded lie, the Ulsterman failed to recreate the lie. Ultimately, he signed an incorrect scorecard. The whammy is that even with the penalty, he would have survived the cut.

Michael Hoey is set to compete in his second British Open, ironically both at Royal Lytham and St. Annes.
The Northern Irishman won the Amateur Championship in 2001 and competed in the British Open the same year. Links golf seems to suit him, as he won the 2011 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship at St. Andrews, with Carnoustie and Kingsbarnes in the rotation for the early rounds. In 2012, he hoisted the trophy at the Trophee Hassan II.

Michael Hoey emerged with a three-stroke victory at the Trophee Hassan II following his final-round, 7-under-par 31-34=65 at Golf du Palais Royal in Agadir, Morocco.
After carding a 65 in his third round that featured an eagle and eight birdies, Hoey circled another eight birdies in the finale to post 17-under 271. Fifty-four-hole co-leader Damien McGrane settled for solo second at 14-under 274 after turning in a 70 today. Matteo Manassero, who shared the lead with McGrane entering the final round, closed with a 72 to place T6 at 12-under 276. The tournament was plagued with inclement weather, which caused delays, but it didn't affect Jamie Donaldson today. The Welshman blistered the host track for an 11-under 28-33=61 with three eagles and six birdies. It allowed him to climb 40 spots and a share of third place at 13-under 275. This is Hoey's fourth career European Tour title and third in the last 10 months.

With a final round of 4-under-par 35-33=68 at St. Andrews, Michael Hoey recorded a two-stroke victory at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
Played over a three-course rota for the first three rounds (including Carnoustie and Kingsbarns), this event draws the cream of the crop on the European Tour. The Ulsterman crafted 66s on each of the courses, good for shares of the lead after 18 and 36 holes, and a three-shot advantage entering today's finale. That buffer evaporated today, but he finished with birdies on the 15th, 16th and 18th holes for a two-stroke margin over countryman, Rory McIlroy (20-under 268). This is Hoey's third career victory on his home circuit and second this year (Madeira Islands Open).
