Overnight leader Justin Rose scratched and clawed his way toward a 3-under-par 34-33=67 during round four of the BMW Championship to play his way into a playoff versus Keegan Bradley on 20-under 260 before losing on the first sudden-death hole. As a consolation prize, Rose has become World No. 1 in the Official World Golf Rankings.
The Englishman didn't fire out of the gate with his best stuff but did have a few highlights. The most notable was a 58'11" hole out for birdie at the par-4 second hole. Rose had just one scoring chance from inside 25 feet over his first eight holes. From there, he may have felt the urgency and turned it into high gear with birdies at 9, 12, 16, and 17. Rose made a clutch birdie (12'7") at the 17th but gave that stroke back on 18 and then swallowed another bogey on the first playoff hole, as well. Rose won't be too heartbroken with this result as he jumps from World No. 4 to grab the No. 1 spot in the world rankings, unseating Dustin Johnson. It's the first time Rose has reached this coveted spot and it's well-deserved after posting 11 podium finishes since the start of the 2017 calendar year. Sep 10 - 2:47 PM
