Ian Poulter reached the halfway point of THE PLAYERS in 2-over-par 75-71=146 and will miss the cut.
He hit just 22 greens in regulation and converted only five birdies, not enough to offset five bogeys and a double. It's just his second missed cut in his last eight trips to TPC Sawgrass. What's more shocking is that he missed the cut in his last start at the Masters. Poulter hadn't missed consecutive cuts on the PGA TOUR since the first two legs of the 2008 FedExCup Playoffs.

Draw your own conclusion, but while the Brit is one of the most vocal golfers in the game by nature, he rarely holds back when golf courses don't meet his standard. Various reports out of Charlotte cite below-average putting surfaces, particularly at the eighth and 10th holes, but it's unknown if they are the reason why Poulter opted not to tee it up at Quail Hollow. He's the seventh to withdraw, all of whom are exempt into next week's PLAYERS.

Ian Poulter heads to the Masters in search of his first major championship win.
The Brit has each of his eight cuts at Augusta National, proving that he’s learned his way around the course. His best finish was a seventh last year. Known as a gritty competitor with a capacity for dropping pressure putts in the Ryder Cup, it wouldn’t surprise anyone if he grabbed a major this season. While the Masters may not be the most likely, it isn't out of the question by any means.

Ian Poulter turned in a 4-under-par 34-34=68 for his opening round of the World Golf Championships-Cadillac Championship, earning him a temporary share of the clubhouse lead.
While he hit 14 greens in regulation, this appeared to be more of an all-or-nothing experience at TPC Blue Monster at Trump Doral today. He holed six birdies, including conversions of 42'5" and 24'5" at the 11th and third holes, respectively, but he also needed respective par saves from 12'5" and 15'4" at Nos. 2 and 7. Poulter set the tone for the day at his first hole -- the 10th on the course -- where he settled for a bogey-6.
