Justin Upton is not in the Braves' lineup Wednesday against the Twins.
The Braves have a scheduled off-day on Thursday, so Upton will essentially get two days to recharge his batteries. Jordan Schafer will start in left field.

Justin Upton smacked a go-ahead grand slam and knocked in five runs in Friday's 8-5 win over the Dodgers.
For all his early success, this was the first time he had driven in more than two runs in a game this season. Upton collected his first RBI with a ground out in the bottom of the third inning and put the Braves ahead with his grand slam off Paco Rodriguez in the bottom of the sixth. It was the third grand slam of his career and his first since June 2, 2009. The 25-year-old outfielder currently leads the majors with 14 home runs and is just three shy of his total from all of last year.

In his return to Arizona, Justin Upton launched his MLB-leading 13th homer in Monday's victory over the Diamondbacks.
Atlanta's new toy finished 4-for-5 with a double, a home run, two runs, and two RBI in the route. Heading into the game, Upton hadn't hit a home run in 14 games and hadn't logged a multi-hit game in a week. Upton leads the NL in homers, runs and slugging percentage and is second in OPS.

Brandon Beachy (elbow) allowed two runs over four innings in his first minor league rehab start Friday with Triple-A Gwinnett.
It was his first game action since undergoing Tommy John surgery last June. Beachy is expected to make around five starts in the minors, so he should be an option for the Braves' rotation in 3-4 weeks if he can avoid setbacks.

Jonny Venters underwent Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery on Thursday afternoon.
It's the second time he's had the procedure in his baseball career. Venters can now be ruled out for the remainder of the 2013 season and is also likely to miss the first couple months of the 2014 campaign. It's obviously a pretty big loss for the Atlanta bullpen.

Eric O'Flaherty will undergo Tommy John surgery on Tuesday to repair a torn left ulnar collateral ligament.
It was inevitable after an MRI over the weekend revealed the bad news. In addition to obviously missing the rest of this season, O'Flaherty will likely be sidelined for the first couple months of the 2014 campaign, as well.

Jordan Walden (shoulder) threw a bullpen session at Citi Field on Friday.
If Walden can avoid setbacks, he should be cleared for a rehab assignment and rejoin the Braves at some point next week. With Eric O'Flaherty out for the season, Walden is likely to return in a setup role with Luis Avilan.

Obviously it's impossible to predict how much time Ayala might miss. David Carpenter has been recalled to take his spot in the bullpen.

Cristhian Martinez (shoulder) still doesn't have a timetable for his return.
The Braves reliever has been sidelined since April 12 with a right shoulder sprain, and apparently it was serious enough that the Braves still don't have any idea when he might be back. The right-hander had a 3.91 ERA with 65 strikeouts in 73 2/3 innings last year.
