Orioles acquired 3B Brandon Wood from the Royals for cash considerations; assigned him to Triple-A Norfolk.
The former top prospect was batting just .264/.304/.396 in 56 plate appearances this year for the Royals' Triple-A affiliate in Omaha, Nebraska. Wood hasn't appeared in a major league game since the 2011 campaign and seems unlikely to make it back with the Orioles.

Brandon Wood hit a walk-off two-run homer Saturday to give the Royals a 4-2 win over the Rangers.
Has Wood finally arrived? Probably not. But a strong spring could earn him a bench role for the Royals. Baseball America's No. 3 prospect in 2006, Wood has struggled to turn talent into results at the major league level. He owns a .186 average in 700 major league at-bats since 2007.

Royals signed INF Brandon Wood.
Wood, who turns 28 in March, batted .259/.313/.409 with 10 home runs and a .722 OPS in 119 games with the Rockies' Triple-A affiliate this season. The former top prospect is nothing more than minor league depth at this point.

Brandon Wood has elected free agency.
The former first round pick disappointed in the strong offensive environment of the PCL, hitting .259/.313/.409 with 10 homers and 64 RBI in 119 games for Triple-A Colorado Springs. He did show versatility, playing five different positions, and should be able to find another organization willing to give him a shot.

It's been very slow progress for Betemit in his recovery from surgery to repair a PCL tear in his right knee. He still has yet to be cleared to resume baseball activities, and the timetable for his return continues to be pushed back. He's virtually irrelevant for fantasy purposes at this point.

Orioles placed OF Nolan Reimold on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 12, with a right hamstring strain.
It's the reason why Reimold was held out of the Orioles' lineup for the fifth straight day Saturday. Chris Dickerson will likely get the majority of starts at designated hitter in his absence. Given his injury history, Reimold could be looking at an extended stay on the DL.

Wei-Yin Chen (oblique) will head to the Orioles' spring training complex Tuesday to begin his rehab.
Chen landed on the 15-day disabled list May 13 with a strained right oblique and can't pick up a baseball for at least another week. But he's allowed to do cardio work while he waits. The right-hander should be ready to rejoin the O's starting rotation in early June.

Miguel Gonzalez (thumb) is expected to be activated to start Tuesday against the Yankees.
Gonzalez was cleared to return after he threw a simulated game Friday with no issues. The 29-year-old has been sidelined since May 4 with a blister on his right thumb. He has a 4.58 ERA and 22/14 K/BB ratio in 35 1/3 innings in six starts this season.

Tsuyoshi Wada (elbow) allowed four runs over four innings Thursday in a rehab start at Triple-A Norfolk.
Wada gave up three hits and issued two walks but he fanned five batters and made it all the way to 78 pitches (45 of which were strikes). He's on his way back from Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery and is aiming to join the Orioles' starting rotation at some point in early-to-mind June. The left-hander signed a two-year, $8.15 million contract with the O's in December 2011 but has not yet thrown a pitch in a major league game.
