Roberto Alomar and Bert Blyleven were elected to the 2011 class of the Baseball Hall of Fame by the BBWAA.
Alomar and Blyleven fell just short of the honor last year, but got their just due on this year's ballot. Alomar received an astounding 90 percent of the vote. While he faded significantly over the final three years of his career, the .300 lifetime hitter made 12 consecutive All-Star appearances and won 10 Gold Glove awards, the most ever at the second base position. Blyleven went 287-250 with a 3.31 ERA over 22 major league seasons, including a 2.47 ERA over eight postseason starts. Armed with one of the game's legendary curveballs, Blyleven is fifth all-time with 3,701 strikeouts. His 14th time on the ballot, he finally made the Hall with 79.7 percent of the vote. Barry Larkin fell short at 62.1 percent, but has good momentum going into 2012. Jack Morris, Lee Smith, Jeff Bagwell, Tim Raines and Edgar Martinez rounded out of the top portion of the ballot.
