The White Sox will retire Frank Thomas' No. 35 in August.
A nice and well-deserved nod for The Big Hurt. Whether you think Thomas allowed his career to run on too long, or have loved him from day one, it's hard to deny that he put up some absolutely stellar numbers. The 41-year-old will take a bow with 521 career homers and a .419 career OBP.

Frank Thomas officially announced his retirement from baseball.
The 41-year-old hangs his cleats up with 521 home runs and a career .301 batting average along with a .419 OBP. "The Big Hurt" played for the White Sox for 16 years starting in 1990 before finishing up with cameos in Toronto and Oakland, last playing in 2008. He won back-to-back MVPs in 1993 and 1994 and has a strong case for Hall of Fame enshrinement. However, Thomas spent the majority of his time as a DH, which will hurt his Hall of Fame chances.

Frank Thomas said he is "close" to announcing his retirement.
"I'm getting close to announcing my retirement because I just turned 41," Thomas said on ESPN 1000. "I just want to make sure that it's the move I really want to make. I don't want to be one of those guys that keeps coming back and keeps saying, 'I'm unretiring, I'm coming back.' I want to make sure it's out of my system." Thomas may not completely have it out of his system, however, as he added: "I'm still in shape, ready to go, if anything happens." Thomas finished last season with the A's.

40-year-old free agent Frank Thomas reiterated Monday that he still wants to play.
"If nothing comes in due time, it will be time to retire," Thomas said. "But until then, I will still wait it out, see what happens. I'm fine with it one way or another." He's willing to delay a decision on retirement until the All-Star break, but injury concerns may ultimately keep him from inking a deal.

It's a procedural move to open up a 40-man roster spot. Sizemore underwent his second major knee surgery in two years last week and will not play this season.

Hiroyuki Nakajima (hamstring) received a day off from his rehab assignment on Saturday but will play in each of the next three games with Triple-A Sacramento.
Nakajima has appeared in four games thus far with Sacramento, going 3-for-15 (.200) with a double and a pair of RBI. He's expected to need a lengthy rehab assignment before joining the Athletics, and isn't a lock to receive significant playing time once he is activated.

Josh Reddick (wrist) will try taking batting practice on Friday.
If it goes well, he'll be cleared to begin a rehab assignment. Reddick discussed last week the possibility of surgery on his right wrist, but he's been able to take dry swings with no issues. If he doesn't suffer any setbacks, it seems possible that he could be activated sometime next week.

Brett Anderson was diagnosed with a navicular stress fracture of his right foot and will be shut down for four weeks.
Rough news for Anderson, who just can't seem to stay healthy. The 25-year-old southpaw is set to be reevaluated after four weeks, so his actual return to the Athletics likely won't be until around the early part of July. Dan Straily is filling his spot in the rotation for now, but the A's could turn to Sonny Gray if he continues to struggle.

Rodriguez will miss the entire 2013 season. The 28-year-old had a 5.37 and 78/34 K/BB ratio over 70 1/3 innings last season with the Astros and was acquired in February's Jed Lowrie deal.
