With no one offering him a contract following his offseason workouts, Joe Borowski said he's opted for retirement.
Borowski had feelers from the Tigers and Phillies, but no commitments. "I guess 38, 87 and 88 wasn't looking good in people's eyes," he said, referring to his age and his fastball velocity. Borowski, who didn't establish himself in the majors until he was 31, apparently will finish his career with 131 saves and a 4.18 ERA.

The Boston Herald reports that the Red Sox have offered Joe Borowski a minor league contract.
Borowski is a long-shot to contribute to the Sox this season, but he his salary is a drop in the bucket. Still, his velocity was way down before getting released by the Indians, and he'd have to recapture it if he's even going to be a decent insurance policy.

Indians released RHP Joe Borowski.
Cleveland designated him for assignment a week ago, and that they didn't wait the full ten days to release him reflects minimal interest around the league. Borowski led the league in saves last year, but he's compiled a 5.57 ERA in his 1 1/2 seasons with the Tribe. The 37-year-old might get a few inquiries for his services as the season wears on.

Indians designated RHP Joe Borowski for assignment.
It says a lot about how overdue the move was that Borowski goes from closing games to off the roster completely, but the Indians stuck with him in the ninth inning for 1 1/2 seasons despite a 5.57 ERA in 82 1/3 frames, including a hideous 7.56 mark this year. Based on performance alone he should struggle to find another big league job initially, but given that he's a "proven closer" you never know. Masa Kobayashi now looks like the favorite for saves, although manager Eric Wedge has yet to officially name a replacement closer and both Rafael Perez and Rafael Betancourt could also be in the mix.

Lou Marson (shoulder) admitted Monday that there is no timetable for his return to the Indians' active roster.
Marson has begun throwing but is not yet performing any other baseball activities due to lingering soreness in his shoulder and neck. "It's definitely frustrating," the catcher told MLB.com. "I know what it is and kind of what I have to do. Hopefully, I can get on the field soon."

Myers threw 33 pitches last week in his first rehab start and will probably try to top 50 pitches on Wednesday. He'll make at least one more start in the minors after that before being considered for activation. The right-hander is attempting to pitch through a UCL tear.

The move was made in order to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for the arrival of Michael Bourn. Tomlin is recovering from Tommy John surgery and is expected to miss the entire 2013 campaign.

Wood felt some soreness in his surgically-repaired elbow during his first appearance on Saturday, but it was only a minor scare. The 27-year-old right-hander is currently in recovery mode from Tommy John surgery and will likely need a handful of appearances before he's a legitimate consideration for the major league roster.
