Jason Kendall announced his retirement from baseball Tuesday.
Kendall, 38, signed a minor league deal with the Royals last week and appeared in two games with Double-A Northwest Arkansas, but he has decided to call it quits. The three-time All-Star will walk away from the game with a .288 lifetime batting average to go along with 2,195 career hits over 15 seasons between the Pirates, Athletics, Brewers, Royals and Cubs.

Royals signed C Jason Kendall to a minor league contract; assigned him to Double-A Northwest Arkansas.
Kendall hasn't appeared in a major league game since 2010 and just turned 38 years old. He seems doubtful to climb all the way up to Kansas City this summer.

Royals activated C Jason Kendall from the 60-day disabled list.
Kendall missed all of this season following major surgery on his right shoulder and ultimately had to undergo another operation. The 37-year-old's career is likely over.

Jason Kendall has been diagnosed with two tears in his rotator cuff and will undergo surgery.
"That takes him out of the picture for this year and out of the picture for next year," Royals manager Ned Yost said Thursday. "I think it’s more a quality-of-life surgery so he can have function in his shoulder." The 37-year-old Kendall seems likely to hang up his cleats for good.

Jarrod Dyson has been diagnosed with a mild high ankle sprain and is expected to be sidelined for 2-to-4 weeks.
The 28-year-old speedster had been off to a decent start this season, hitting .268/.286/.561 with a homer, eight RBI and six stolen bases through his first 41 at-bats. While the timetable for recovery is short, any injury to the ankle is something to very closely monitor for a player such as Dyson who derives all of his fantasy value from his speed. David Lough could be worth a look in very deep leagues while Dyson is out.
