According to Andy Martino of the New York Daily News, Orlando Hernandez is expected to announce his retirement.
El Duque hasn't pitched professionally since last August, so this doesn't come as a big surprise. The Cuban right-hander will hang it up with a 90-65 career record to go along with a 4.13 ERA and 1,086 strikeouts. He won the ALCS MVP with the Yankees in 1999 and was the member of four World Series champions.

Orlando Hernandez is hoping to pitch in the big leagues next year.
El Duque posted a solid 1.72 ERA over 11 appearances for the Nationals' Gulf Coast League affiliate earlier this season but left the club after being told that he would not be called up to majors in September. He hasn't thrown a pitch in a major league game since 2007 and is now 41 years of age, but perhaps he will get lucky with a minor league contract.

Orlando Hernandez left Double-A Harrisburg on Sunday after he was told that he was not going to join the Nationals in September.
"He asked me directly: 'Will I be a September call-up?' and I said, 'No, but we want you to finish out the season.' And he said, 'No, I'm not going to,'" explained Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo. El Duque had a 1.72 ERA over 11 relief appearances between the GCL Nats and Double-A Harrisburg. He hasn't appeared in the big leagues since 2007, so we're guessing this is probably the end for him.

According to The Patroit-News, Orlando Hernandez abrupbtly ended his season at Double-A Harrisburg on Sunday.
El Duque singed a minor league contract with the Nationals in early July and pitched well in the Gulf Coast League before earning a promotion to the Double-A level in mid-August. The success continued at Harrisburg, but he obviously came to the conclusion that he would not reach the majors this year. Chances are the 44-year-old will retire soon.

Ramos missed a couple weeks last month with the same injury. He doesn't think the strain is too bad, but it's possible the Nats will play it safe and hold him out longer this time around.

Jayson Werth (hamstring) will not be ready for activation from the disabled list on Friday and could be sidelined for as much as two more weeks.
Nationals manager Davey Johnson said he received an "alarming" report on Werth Monday, which obviously doesn't sound good. The outfielder experienced a setback with his hamstring during a rehab game last week and has yet to return to game action. He was slated to see a specialist over the weekend and evidently didn't receive good news. Roger Bernadina and Tyler Moore will continue to be the primary fill-ins for Werth.

Detwiler will play catch on Tuesday before throwing from a mound later in the week. With an off day on Thursday, the Nationals can delay Detwiler's next turn a few days. Zach Duke is making a spot start in his place on Monday.

Nationals placed RHP Ryan Mattheus on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 20, with a fractured right hand.
Mattheus suffered the injury Sunday after he gave up five runs on four hits and two walks over one inning against the Padres and punched his locker in frustration. No word yet on how long he'll be sidelined, but he's obviously facing an extended absence. The Nationals are calling up Yunesky Maya and Fernando Abad for some bullpen insurance.

Christian Garcia (forearm) is scheduled to begin a minor league rehab assignment this weekend with Double-A Harrisburg.
Garcia has been shut down since the early part of spring training with a partial tendon tear in his right forearm, but he's ready to return to game action. The Nationals were planning to stretch him out as a starter prior to the injury, but he'll pitch in relief for the time being.
