Rays transferred RHP Kyle Farnsworth from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.
Farnsworth is still making his way back from an early-April elbow strain. He's aiming to being throwing soon, but the right-hander won't be eligible to return until June 5. Fernando Rodney has a real opportunity to run away with ninth-inning duties.
May 1 - 6:53 PM
Kyle Farnsworth (elbow) estimated Friday that he could begin to throw in a week.
Farnsworth was placed on the disabled list two weeks ago with a right elbow strain, but he said Friday that the inflammation is gone from the area. While this is encouraging news, it's unlikely he returns until sometime in May. Fernando Rodney is 4-for-4 in save opportunities thus far and should continue to fill in for Farnsworth.

Kyle Farnsworth (elbow) is expected to be sidelined 4-6 weeks.
It's a little longer than we were anticipating, but it could be worse. Rays manager Joe Maddon said he'll use a committee at closer until Farnsworth returns, unless someone steps up. Joel Peralta would be the best guess to claim the job outright, but Fernando Rodney and J.P. Howell are among the other possibilities.

Rays placed RHP Kyle Farnsworth on the 15-day disabled list with a right elbow strain.
As expected. Rays manager Joe Maddon told reporters earlier this week that a closer-by-committee would be implemented in Farnsworth's absence, but Joel Peralta is probably the one guy worth owning. Farnsworth should be back in late April or early May.

Jose Lobaton (shoulder) is likely a week away from being activated from the disabled list.
Lobaton has been on the disabled list since mid-April with right shoulder soreness. The 27-year-old backstop is 2-for-18 (.111) over six rehab games with High-A Charlotte and Double-A Montgomery. Jose Molina and Chris Gimenez will continue to split catching duties for now.

Rays transferred C Robinson Chirinos (concussion) to the 60-day disabled list.
The move clears a spot for Brandon Allen on the 40-man roster. Chirinos was concussed by a foul tip late in spring training. He won't be eligible to return until May 26, though it's possible he won't have a spot on the 25-man roster if the Rays end up liking what they see from Chris Gimenez.

Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports that Evan Longoria (hamstring) "might be ahead of schedule."
The only other detail Topkin offered is that "an early return is still June." Longo has been pegged for a late June return, but perhaps he'll make it back a little sooner than that. He recently played catch and fielded ground balls on his knees, but the real test will come when he starts running again.

Rays manager Joe Maddon said Desmond Jennings (knee) had a "great day" of activity Tuesday but will "probably not" be ready for activation Sunday.
An earlier report indicated that his activation over the weekend was expected, but apparently he won't quite be ready. It sounds like Jennings is coming along nicely and should be good to go early next week.

Sam Fuld

Sam Fuld is scheduled to travel to Cleveland on Tuesday for follow-up exam on his right wrist.
The Rays are expected to update his timetable after the visit. Fuld underwent right wrist surgery in early March and could miss the entire 2012 season.

Rays transferred RHP Jeff Niemann from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list.
The Rays initially provided a 4-6 week timetable for Niemann, who suffered a fractured right fibula Monday, but he'll have to sit out at least two months now. The team has yet to announce who will replace him in the rotation, but it will either be Alex Cobb or Chris Archer.

A judge in Charlotte County, Florida has reduced Matt Bush's bail from $1.015 million to $440,000.
The number is still probably out of Bush's price range, considering the reports that he had only $2,000 left in his bank account when he struck a 72-year-old motorcyclist in March while drunk. The former No. 1 overall pick is facing charges of DUI, hit-and-run and property damage. He's likely done with professional baseball for good.
