The Blue Jays have removed Francisco Cordero from the closer role and named Casey Janssen as his replacement.
Perfectly understandable, as Cordero blew his third save of the season on Tuesday night and now has an ugly 9.53 ERA over 11 1/3 innings. We're a bit surprised to see Janssen get the nod, but the Jays probably prefer to keep Jason Frasor and Darren Oliver in their traditional roles, especially with Sergio Santos (shoulder) likely only a couple of weeks away from returning. Still, with a a 3.21 ERA since the start of the 2010 season, Janssen should be a pretty reliable bridge. Feel free to pick him up in all fantasy formats.

Francisco Cordero took an ugly loss Tuesday, giving up five runs in the ninth against the A's.
Cordero blew the save in a 3-2 game by giving up a double, a sac bunt and an RBI single. After a stolen base and two intentional walks, he then gave up a walkoff grand slam to Brandon Inge. The poor outing may well cost him his role as Toronto's interim closer, as his ERA is all of the way up to 9.53. The Jays might want to go to Jason Frasor and Darren Oliver in save opportunities.
May 9 - 1:14 AM
Francisco Cordero took his second consecutive blown save on Tuesday, giving up an RBI single to Michael Young in the ninth inning.
Cordero had started out strong as a fill-in for the injured Sergio Santos, but he's now blown consecutive chances and his ERA has ballooned to 5.73. Perhaps the Blue Jays would be better served trying Luis Perez or Casey Janssen in the night-inning role until Santos returns.
May 1 - 10:58 PM
Francisco Cordero notched his second save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning in Monday's win over the Royals.
Cordero allowed a leadoff single to Mike Moustakas but then got Brayan Pena to ground into a double play and Mitch Maier to pop out. The veteran closer has just a 4.50 ERA and 1.62 WHIP in the early going, but he should be a solid enough stopper while Sergio Santos is on the shelf.

Ben Francisco left Sunday's game with a tight left hamstring.
The Blue Jays are calling it precautionary, though it's worth noting that Francisco had problems with the same hamstring at the end of spring training. Consider him day-to-day.

Sergio Santos (shoulder) is currently throwing at a distance of 115-120 feet.
Santos hopes to be long-tossing by the end of the week, after which he'll likely begin throwing from a mound. It was previously estimated that he could be back by the end of the month, but now early-to-mid June looks more realistic. Casey Janssen will continue to handle save chances.

Jesse Litsch said precautionary tests have confirmed that the infection in his shoulder is gone.
Good news. Litsch required emergency arthroscopic surgery in early March after developing an infection following an injection of platelet-rich plasma in his right shoulder. The infection somehow got worse from there, which led to the 27-year-old right-hander saying that he may never play again, but he appears to finally be making some progress.

Blue Jays placed RHP Alan Farina on the 60-day disabled list.
He was cleared to make room for the newly-signed Rick VandenHurk on the 40-man roster. Farina underwent Tommy John surgery last July and is unlikely to pitch in a game until later this summer. The 25-year-old could be a useful bullpen piece in the long term.
